New to the forum
Hi everyone! I've been reading GC for about a month or two now, ever since I decided I had some interest in rushing this semester. I came across this site in the Yahoo directory, decided to check it out, and BAM! I was hooked. Haha.
Well to tell you a little bit about myself, I'm Ali. I'm a second semester sophomore at a state school in Pennsylvania...it has about 8,000 students give or take a few. I'm a communications major...wanted to go into journalism when I first came here, but now I'm looking more into advertising or public relations, specifically in the field of sports marketing.
I consider myself to be very open minded towards meeting new people, but if someone honestly hurts my feelings or makes me angry in actions or words, I have a hard time communicating with that person from that point on. However as long as you are nice to me, I will treat you nice too, even if we aren't best friends. I like to do community service...it's just a shame that I don't have a lot of time to do it due to my full class schedule and work and campus activites. On my campus, I am involved with campus ministry, I am assistant sports editor of the student newspaper, and I sing in the concert choir. I spent three semesters in the women's choir, but this semester I am not doing that due to the fact that some drama came up and I needed a break.
I decided to rush because I met a sorority girl in my one class last semester (obviously I'm not going to say which GLO she is a member of), and she was not what I pictured sorority girls to be like. I used to think sorority girls were only into drinking and partying and hanging out with fraternity boys all the time, but that's not the case. I looked into the websites of different sororities, I came to be amazed at their ideas of sisterhood and was also very interested in the philanthropy aspect. I no longer have the stereotype I did of sorority girls and I'm glad to see sororities are not all that I thought they were...which is a very good thing!
Last night was the first night of rush here where we met our Rho Chis. I was nervous but everything went pretty well. However, I'll go to Recuritment Stories and post a bit about my experience so you girls can keep up with me if you desire.
P.S. I have an idea of which GLO I want here, but of course, I am going to keep an open mind! I am excited/nervous for tonight's event, but I'll keep everyone posted. Can't wait to get further involved in the discussion here! You girls seem great!
