Found this to be an interesting article out of Indonesia, especially considering the recent history of attacks on Christians and chruches - it's good to see that people are stepping up against the violence and extremism:

Muslims plan to guard Indonesian churches on Xmas
JAKARTA (Reuters) - Volunteers from Indonesia's largest Islamic organisation will guard churches across the world's most populous Muslim nation on Christmas amid fears of terrorist attacks on those places, the group said on Friday.
Jakarta police have said they would boost security in the capital ahead of Christmas to avoid a repeat of 2000 Christmas Eve bombings on churches in several Indonesian cities, including in the country's capital.

A youth wing affiliated with Indonesia's largest Muslim group Nahdlatul Ulama, some 40 million strong, told Reuters that members would guard churches for the coming Christmas festivities and it had persuaded youths from other religions to join the project.

"We have an annual programme to set up posts to secure Christmas. For this year, I have contacted groups from other religions like the Hindhus and Buddhists and they have responded positively," said Tatang Hidayat, national coordinator of NU's Banser group, known for its military-like uniform.

Indonesia is a moderate Muslim country. Terrorism is dying out there.

In other news, in May there were market blasts that killed 20 people and in October there were the beheadings of three Christian schoolgirls.

Today:
Suspected Islamic militants set off a powerful bomb packed with nails Saturday at a busy market frequented by Christians, killing eight people and wounding 45 as they bought pork for New Year's Eve celebrations.

The blast occurred in Palu on Sulawesi Island, which has been plagued in recent years by religious violence and terrorism by Islamic extremists.


These events are very rare though, so please nobody jump to conclusions about terrorists and Islam.

No, those stories sucked. I skipped those.

Yes Rudey, terrorism is still a threat. However, militant Islam will never gain popular ground in Indonesia. For that particular bombing, there are several theories being floated around by the media and analysts.

(1) Noordin M. Top and his irks were behind it. (Jemaah Islamiyah)
(2) SBY (the initial for the Indonesian president) is in a crusade against corruption. This might be done by one of the official that is currently being investigated by the KPK (the anti-corruption commission)
(3) Those who were involved in Poso have moved their operation to this city because Poso have been guarded very tightly by the military and the police.
(4) One of the victim was an intel officer and his wife, it could've been a hit.

I personally think it's Top and his irks. They're getting desperate as their funding is shrinking.

The suspects of the girls beheaders include one Christians and they're all affiliated with the a security forces. Again, you haven't proven to any one that Indonesia will become a fundamentalist state. Jemaah Islamiyah themselve are fast becomming desperate when it come to searching for funds. they have now gone to the robbing banks and jewelry stores to fund their hateful ideology. However, they have not gained any grounds on convincing the general Indonesian public that their vision of a united Southeast Asian state under Shariah law is the way to go. In fact, democracy have even extended further. This month will be the first time that village leaders will be directly elected by the people. The press has become vibrants and are very critical of both religious institutions and the government.

I'll repeat myself, IT IS NOT TAKING HOLD.
