The Lisa Frank Appreciation Thread

Let's talk about Lisa Frank!

I love the golden retrivers, the polar bear, the dolphins and the horses! Well, I LOVE EVERYTHING!

I've got dozens of folders, a pencil case, pencils, an assignment book (when I was in 6th grade), lunch sack with the chinese symbol "love" (in high school), stationary, and everything else. I've wanted to join the fan club, but I was unable to.

I used to love it when I was younger, but by the time I got to HS I grew out of it for the most part. But the memories...and I'm sure I have some stuff around somewhere....

Was it a Lisa Frank TRAPPER KEEPER? They had those. I knew a couple of girls in my classes that had them. I went with the cloth Mead one personally, in blue of course.

dont know about you losers, but I had a lisa frank trapper keeper, circa 4th grade.

it may have been the only thing i had in common with the all non-ethnic elementary school girls i went to school with that year.

but like many a binders, the rings got all funky and uneven, so... that was the end for me.

Alas, no...it wasn't a Lisa Frank TRAPPER KEEPER. When my mom and I went school supplies shopping, she would never get one for me because they were more expensive than the regular plain Mead ones.

This was the same mom who would never buy Gelly Roll pens for me because they were more expensive than the PaperMate 10 packs.

Why yes I do!

A lot of schools and athletic teams sold POGs as a fundraiser and they made TONS of money because everyone loved collecting them. We'd play with them, of course, but after a while they all became collector's items.

I had an aunt who had no kids so at the beginning of each school year she would send me a box full of school supplies, most of it Lisa Frank. I had the Trapper Keeper, tons of folders (way more than I could use), pencils, pens, stationery, etc. The Golden Retrievers, Unicorns, and Ballet Shoes were my favorites.

Let's reflect, shall we?

Notes from the 80s salutes - THE TRAPPER KEEPER

I seem to remember having a purple-ish one. Maybe it had a unicorn on it? I do remember one girl had an enormous peach one that zippered up...we made fun of her for the enormity and the peach-ness of it.

Now, what are POGs? I've never heard of them. I'd appreciate a little pop culture enlightenment.

They were the craze in the early 1990s, all this time I didn't know they first originated here in Hawaii.

The juice it's named after (Passion-Orange-Guava) is very very yummy and is sold in most national grocery chains, I'm sure!

I had a Lisa Frank kitties Trapper Keeper. It was big craze when I was in 4th-6th grade.

I also had a collection of rubber stamps, stickers, notepads, pens, etc.

Gelly Pens... are these the same as Gelly Roll pens? If so, I still use 'em for scrapbooking. But I could be wrong.

Huh. I have no recollection of those. I started high school in 1990, so maybe I missed them.
