As I mentioned Monday, he was downsized after 7 years of being with Meredith. Mr. Sageofages' boss called him in about 2pm yesterday and said "we regret to inform you, your position is being eliminated". Basically "Thanks your work was great, but since the conversion is over, Interactive Media is going to do your job. No reflection on you, it is 'just a business decision'." After winning national awards, company awards and bonus after bonus...go figure. He gets 4 months' severance (full benefits) and "outplacement assistance" (which is a joke).
Monday after they dropped their bombshell, he could not stay around because our son had a dr's appt, and he had to get him there. He went into the "office" Tuesday morning to clean out his "cube". Hoping, his boss will let him get some of the personal files and portfolio code he has on his machine at worked copied as well.
I have tried to be as supportive and loving as possible...but he was sandbagging on me, trying to be "Mr Stoic-it-will-be-alright". He was up all night last night with a sick stomach and heavy feeling in his chest. I could not get him to go to the hospital. He wanted to say it was a pulled chest muscle etc. He would at least agree it might be stress angina, as no other signs or symptoms of heart attack. I was scared to death for him last night as he just went through one the two greatest stressers a person can face. He agreed to see the corporate nurse at Meredith before he did the cube cleaning....
Tuesday turned into the worst day of MY personal life, and I know it was close for Mr. SageofAges. He had a what a first blush was a minor heartattack, that turned ugly very fast

He has had a major MI. The "ambush downsizing" was the straw that broke the camel's back, but this was coming eventually. Thank god the nurse who sent him to the hospital was on her toes. Dr said if this had happened at another time, not in the hospital, I would be a widow.
Mr Sageofages has 4 major blockages on 3 major arteries. His heart stopped twice during the Catherization and he has a pacemaker in right now. His breathing is labored, and he is using a positive pressure external ventilation and may have to be intubated and put on a ventilator

He is schedule for another angioplasty on Friday. He is basically serious but stable right now.
I have never been so damned scared in my entire life. He is in the CICU at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, no phone in the room.
I need prayers, he needs prayers.
