Better than shooting her in the leg or something. It's a better alternative.

Just because someone is old and a granny doesn't make them outside the law. The situation here seems hazy, there's a lack of detail in the article, so it's hard to comment on the particular situation.

Exactly - it's mentioned that she may have hit her granddaughter. Did she go after the officer? The article really doesn't go into any detail.

Also, whether someone is a granny or not really should have no affect on what is done to her if she resists arrest. It was only used in the headline because it makes it sound like a good story. Yeah, she was 68, but there are 28 year old grandmothers out there too (a woman has a daughter at 14, and that daughter has a daughter at 14).

Personally, i'd rather be tasered than shot.

And it's likely a better option for an older person, too. Someone of that age could very likely be on blood thinners or something, and would have a good chance of dying from getting shot.
