APhiO: Women streakers 'invade' fraternity's traditional nude run

OBLATION RUN
Women streakers 'invade' fraternity's traditional nude run

First posted 05:51pm (Mla time) Dec 15, 2005

Inquirer

TWO NAKED women “invaded” the annual Oblation Run of the UP Alpha Phi Omega fraternity at the University of the Philippines in Quezon City on Thursday, stealing the show from 20 male streakers in their annual “Ritual Dance of the Brave.”

The naked women, who wore wigs and masks, gamely posed for the cameras in front of the Oblation at Quezon Hall at the UP Diliman campus.

The women surfaced just moments after APO streakers left the hall about 11:45 a.m.

Carrying posters with the message: “Equal Rights for Women,” the women emerged from a car in the parking lot and ran toward the Oblation.

The women did not say anything, but stayed just long enough to pose for photographers before fleeing toward a waiting car.

The fraternity said that it had no hand in the unidentified women’s surprise appearance.

So what is odd and worth mentioning about this is that the two women joined in, not the fact that they all go streaking every year and call it the "Ritual Dance of the Brave"?? I mean, really - who has a "traditional nude run", as a public event, and for what purpose? Weird ...

Apparently people in Quezon city... wait, it's in the Phillipines so is it cold or hot there right now...

Truly brave would be running in the cold. Not only are you freezing your giblets off, your twig and berries are not exactly at their peak appearance-wise, and there are spectators! With Cameras!

/wants to start that here... almost
//let the boys do it, I'll stay warm and clothed.

Ummmm.... I've seen a regular one up here - that takes place in Jan. - to me that requires bravery and a certain hope that "shrinkage" is understood by any female viewers; okay at some hope they won't pelt the poor guys with snowballs again...

One fraternity on my campus (who will remain nameless) did a 'bell run' where they ran from their house to a bell on campus, did their little chant and ran back following every initiation. This was in Wisconsin and they probably did about three a year.

One time they were about to run across the road toward the bell and campus was coming up the road, they had to hide behind trees in the snow to try and not be seen. Security probably just didn't want to chase the naked people...we had some pretty good streaking stories. I think every group on campus did some kind of streaking at one point or another.

Alpha Phi Omega, National Service Fraternity in the USA is a co-ed organization. Alpha Phi Omega of the Phillipines, is divided into Alpha Phi Omega Sorority and Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity. Yes, APO-Phil was originally founded to be similar to APO-USA, but they are two separate organizations, but work together via ICAPO (International Council of Alpha Phi Omega). We wear the same letters, believe in the same three cardinal principles, but without revealing specifics - let's just say that APO-USA and APO-Phil are *VERRRRRRRRY* different.

Ann Arbor used to. Not sure if they still do. Just because you've never seen it or participated, doesn't mean that it's stupid to have. Ever heard of fun?

I can think of a ton of schools that have it - including UChicago and Princeton.

That chapter is not co-ed from what I understand...not only that, but they are more like a traditional, social fraternity than a service fraternity.

I graduated from the University of Michigan in 2000 and the tradition of the Naked Mile - ran by 'graduating seniors' on the last day of regular classes - was alive and well. At the time at least 25% of the hundreds of runners were women. I am sure the tradition continues today!!!

This is what I heard about the Naked Mile:
Unfortunately, the Naked Mile at the University of Michigan is not the same anymore. The police have cracked down on it. Anyone that gets caught running the Mile faces fines and being labeled a sex offender. Yeah, the fun is gone at UM...Blah...

i graduated in 2004 from michigan and while the police have cracked down, it still is a big social event and there are a few who still run. it's still fun and in front of the union, there are always mgc/nphc greeks congregated with their new members. it's not the same in the sense of the quantity of runners, but it's still a tradition
