Firefly/Serenity
Okay I have to admit that when Firefly first aired I didn't watch. In all honesty I was all about my Buffy (since it was season 7 and all).
So I saw the trailer for Serenity about a month ago and I loved it. First off I started talking to myself (he he) saying "oh there's Caleb and oh there's Jasmine and psycho slayer Dana" (I'm not sure if Summer Glau actually played psycho slayer Dana but she sure looks like the actress who did if it wasn't her). So those three "sold" me and the trailer was awesome.
I decided that I needed to buy the DVD's so that I would be completely "caught up" and understand what the heck was going on (although I understood quite a bit from the trailer, go JW for that one).
I bought the DVD's on Saturday and I finished them yesterday (this in between work).
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this show and now I'm pissed at myself for not watching it when it was on the air because now it is off. GRRRRR ARRRRR (he he the Mutant Enemy GRRR ARRR).
Serenity opens September 30th I believe and I'm so excited. I'm really hoping for some kissage between Simon and Kaylee but knowing Joss (from Angel and Buffy) I won't get my kissage. LOL.
I can't wait to see the movie!!!!

See my sig
When Firefly was first aired, it was on Fox. Fox aired the episodes in completely the wrong order, showing the pilot last and there were three episodes they didn't air at all. I think that's why it never caught on and wasn't picked up for another season - the whole backstory is laid out in the pilot, which wasn't aired until the end, so everyone was confused.
The Sci-Fi channel has acquired the rights to air existing episodes of Firefly (but not, I believe, to produce new eps) and they're currently being shown on Fridays at 7pm Eastern time - all of them, in the right order. I've been watching, and everything makes a lot more sense now.
Looking forward to the movie. I will actually be setting foot in a theatre for this one.

Firefly is being aired now on SciFi channel, before Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis. It's also available on DVD (via retail outlets and Netflix).

I should put the funny lines JW had them say in Firefly in my sig. (Hey I have a Buffy one, why not a Firefly one).

Basically the show is about the future with the events and ideas from the past mixed in. So easier explained the main cast of 9 are on a spaceship after a huge intergalatic war (they lost) and the worlds are all "western". If that makes sense at all.
If it is a 'nerd show' then I guess I'm a nerd.

Trying to be loyal to "Whedonesque", I have it TiVo'd as a season pass. I keep trying to watch it, but I simply can't get into Firefly...

OMG I saw the movie on Friday night and I loved it!!!!!!
I guess the movie did pretty well too. Number 2 at the box office taking in 10.1 million. Not to shabby (the number 1 only took in 14 Million). Joss said that they only had to make 45 million for them (the production companies) to consider it to be a success. I think they will make it with more movie sales and eventually the DVD sales.
so without further ado my thoughts about the movie....

OMG I was so excited to see more about why River became who she was (ie. psycho). I loved the scene where she began kicking some ass in the bar. That was awesome. I bow down to JW for making me feel like I was watching an awesome Buffy episode. LOL.
God Bless JW for allowing Kaylee and Simon to get it on. You know I wanted it while the show was on and I finally got it in the movie. YES!!!!! Woo hoo to some kissage (and to Sean for being topless, that was really NICE).
I loved the history behind the reavers. Although I missed it. I had to go to the bathroom (damn bladder) and I left at the moment that the "hologram" was giving the information on the reavers and my dad had to "fill me in" which kind of sucked. I told my brother I'd take him to see the movie next week and I now know NOT to leave to go pee at that point in the movie.
I bawled, bawled, bawled my eyes out when Wash and Preacher (was that his name, I'm too tired to remember it now) died. BAWLED. I wanted to slap JW at that point. LOL.
This movie definately lead way to the love/hate feelings for Joss Whedon.

I watched the movie. It was a lot of fun, I really enjoyed the characters. So I went out and bought the entire season one on DVD. That was a lot of fun also . . .
Is there any talk of doing anything with the series now?
I kept thinking that if they wanted to bring it back . . well they killed the pilot and the shepherd . . .

well I've paid for it several times and have only seen it once (yea, I seem to do that a lot lately).....
anyway......
I was just so upset when Wash died, I think I scream very louc in the theater, not to sure, but I sure did gasp pretty damn loud....
I am upset that we didn't get the back story on Book and his role in the alliance, if you recall one of the eppys, he was responsible for getting the Serenity crew out of a jam. But Ron Glass really didn't want to be in the movie, so I guess it had to be that way.......
It has left a lot of openings for potential sequals....a good idea.
I will have to go see it again, to take it all in....
I was a bit upset with the resolution of River, but I am sure that is just the surface and she still has a lot of healing to do.
Did anyone else notice the dinosaurs when they were taking off?

I never got a chance to see the TV show, but I must say, the movie was AMAZING.
First off, was anyone else impressed by the fact that none of the actors are very well-known? Our whole little group who went to see it was like, "OMG, it's a producer's wet dream!" The only one we recognized was one of the girls who was also on Space Cases (the rainbow-haired screamy chick?), but that's just because we're both old Nickelodeon geeks and pretty unashamed of the fact that we watched entirely too much of that channel as a kid...
Anyway, OMG. OMG, OMG, OMG. I'm not a huge sci-fi fan, but Joss Whedon could write a movie about absolutely nothing and it would be worth it just for the dialogue. There was a lot of classic Whedon-esque snappy dialogue and witty remarks that made it all worthwhile. And the fight scenes? Definitely worthy of a stare and drool. OMG.
And as far as killing off the characters goes, isn't that just what Whedon does? Even with Buffy/Angel's numerous resurrected characters, the finales of both had a pretty high major character body count.

Saw Serenity yesterday. Loved it, loved it! I can't wait to get it on DVD so I can review all the great dialogue. Especially because there were two annoying biatches sitting directly behind me who Wouldn't. Shut. Up.
Spoilers ahead...
I was very startled when Wash died. I know from Buffy that Joss Whedon has absolutely no qualms about killing off characters, including main characters, but after Book died, I figured/thought/hoped there wouldn't be another major character death. Lesson learned (again): Never underestimate Joss Whedon.
It was interesting, and saddening, to see how the Reavers came to be. And seeing more of the backstory on River (including Simon rescuing her) was great. And Simon and Kaylee finally got together. You can almost pick out plot lines from the movie and see what each season 2 episode would have consisted of if there had been a season 2.
I hope there's a sequel...
