Delts will hold Leadership Academy during Spring Break
Capital Academy - Washington DC
March 16-20, 2006
Truth, Courage, Faith and Power are the principles of Delta Tau Delta. These same principles are found in the foundation of our country and the building blocks of our democracy and freedom. At the first ever Capital Academy in Washington, DC you will have the opportunity to combine your patriotism and deltism with fellow brothers from around the country!
The spring break Capital Academy will take place March 16-20, 2006. The curriculum will be based around the Seven Habits of Highly Effective College Students, and expand into the streets of Washington, DC with visits to many of DC's landmarks including the Holocaust Museum and the National Archives. Each night will end with a discussion of our Principles and what this fraternity is all about on the steps of DC's famous monuments.
I wish they had this when I was in undergrad. I was always unable to attend during the summer academies.

of course, many schools have spring break at different times so this is a horrible week for many of their chapters as it falls during midterms.

I think that this is a great thing Delt has added to its leadership academy lineup! Nice work, let's keep making more opportunities and experiences like this or our Delt brothers!
and techzbt,
wow, why knock something great like this? and no, it's not a bad time...many spring breaks fall into that timeline... if they didn't then how could so many students from across the country get together at the same time on the sunny beaches in cancun and other spring break destinations? I don't think those kids are worrying about midterms...no harm done, just no need knock something that's a postive greek experience. Thanks.

Well. One would hope the Delts aren't trying to deliberately compete with Spring Break . . A lot of people make plans. Shrug.

I don't think zbt is knocking it; it's difficult to hold events like this during the school year, as you're going to end up running into someone's schedule. It's not a criticism, it's a fact.

One thing that GLOs do is try to do, is to disrupte School activities as much as possible. So, when does one propose it? Is it hard? Of course it is. But, if someone is interested enough, they will work the time in at the supposed free school time.

That's true; I know Kappa Sig tries to have the big events (leadership conferences, etc.) over the summer. There are still scattered events during the school year.
It is what it is - you can't conform to everyone's schedule, you just try to do the best you can.

James, No one is competing with spring break.
The Delt leadership academies are for small groups of Delts who are interested in the experience and to learn more about leadership and maybe broaden their expereinces and opportunities. Has your chapter ever brought in someone to hold a 'workshop' or have you ever been to anything similar to a 'leadership retreat'. Well consider this like that, only on a bigger scale.
It's NOT our "conference", or our "general convention" (that's called our Karnea that's held every two years in the summer) or any sort of mandatory thing for all our chapters. It's just for guys who want to go.
It's an experience we offer to members who want to take advantage of it. So if they are really interested, and that time works, they will apply, if it doesn't work then there are other opportunities. In the summers there's a sailing academy, a hiking one, and one that takes place at Bethany where Delt was founded and our founding house still stands. And now this year we add Washington D.C. to the list and made it at a different time so that if some men would like to go to D.C. for this experience they can do so with the fraternity. If someone is not interested then they just don't apply, therefore it doesn't matter to them (common sense huh).
Actually it's pretty great for men who don't normally have the resources to go (or can't make it to the summer ones) b/c there's only $150 fee and after that, ALL costs associated with attending the Leadership Academy will be paid by the Fraternity.

Try going to 2 Regionals and 1 General while owing a small business!
I hope I am still able to go to the 100 Year of LXA in 2009 if I am still alive.
Attending these conferences is one of the most rewarding points of My Life.
Meeting Brothers from Areas at Regionals some who know Me from visiting their Chapters or to G C Members at G A who I had coversed with but never Met and now converse all of the time!
Meeting Brothers no matter what Chapter gives an Open wide opportunity that is unbeleiveable! Meet, Learn, get Educated, Have a Great Time, and Have Friendships never before found.

That is exactly right. Something like this would never put even a little dent in Spring Break.
Whether to attend this Leadership Academy will depend on the priorities of the individual Delt. Not everyone goes to the traditional Spring Break destinations. Some may be even more interested in this opportunity than a week long drunk.
Did I say that?
