Campus Relations and your GLO

How well does your chapter get along with departments (like student or res life) and non-greek organizations (like SGA or university programming) on your campus?

What benefits has your chapter reaped from having these relations?

My chapter tries to get out and support some of the other on campus organizations. A few weeks ago a group of Alpha Chis went to a dinner sponsored by the Hispanic club on campus.... we got cut-rate admission too!

I think it's good for GLOs to try to be involved with student orgs as much as possible. Sometimes GLOs can seem like they're closed off to everyone else. If greeks have highly visible involvement/support of organizations then the campus orgs are likely to return the favor when it comes time for philanthropy events, etc. It's just good for the image of the GLO in general to be involved.

There are always exceptions, however. A sister got reamed out by the school choir director when she joined AXO because he "knew" that Alpha Chi wouldn't give her any time to sing.

p.r. with other groups

It is wise to keep good relations with other non-GLOs, in fact,
some of them might indeed be good candidates for your GLO.
I raided Delta Sigma Pi, business, and got several to pledge us
while they remained in their professional outfit. They were mostly
business majors, made their grades and understood what paying
bills meant! So, do not overlook the professionals!
Also, thanks to John Hammell and Tom Earp for straightening out
my password dilemma. It was not GC's fault but was the fault of
AOL. These men took charge, resolved the problem, and I want
you all to know this....thanks, guys!

The Student Life division here at our university usually calls on Betas to volunteer at university events. It has become a great marketing tool for us. It's gotten to the point where we're the only group they call because we rearrange our schedules so that we can assist them with events.

we also work for our local bookstore during book rush periods to help sell/buy back books. We're the only fraternity on campus that has been asked back for four consecutive semesters.

Thumbs up

Ah Shucks E, glad to be of help!

Actually, it makes no matter what each Group is, We all have certain Projects that each does for Charity.

I commend BTPi for being called upon by the College.

A lot depends on the size of The Chapter to get things done along with relationships.

When I was down one time ASA was doing a teeter-thon in front of their House. Hope they got a bunch of $$ for it.

Not knowing what each GLO does, it is hard for to speak to this thread.

LXA does many things depending on Chapters.

Some do the Watermelon Bust, Tetter Totter A Thon, Western Week, or Hot Tub A Thon. But, many are done in conjunction with the Largest Food Drive in the World.

Many of these are worked in Conjunction with Soroitys to give each a PR Push.

We as Greeks do more for Charitys than most people.

I am damn proud to admit it!

Our IFC used to do events with non-Greek orgs, especially philanthropies. By planning the events together and getting results, we were able to foster better relations with the school and other student groups.

I'd say the philanthropy route is the best route to go, at least in my experience. It send a message to other students that Greeks can do good work, and working with the other orgs helps build trust among everyone.
