My fiance is five years older than me and I think that's fine.

Personally, anything over ten years is a little weird,
and anyone who could be your parent or grandparent is just gross.

Good rule of thumb I follow: up to ten years older or younger is OK, younger than that and you might be called a 'cradle robber'; older than that and you're looking for someone to remind you of dear old Mom...

Your age divided by two...plus 7.

That's what I've heard.

I dated guys old enough to be my father, but the youngest has been 5 years younger than I. Maybe it's because I'm in geriatrics...

I've never dated anyone older than 3 years older than me.. and I've never dated anyone younger. I think maybe up to 5 yrs older wouldn't be too bad for me.

Although it all depends too.. if it is a 14-yr old girl, she doesn't need to be dating a 19-yr old! Once you get older, I guess it's more socially acceptable

Youngest I've dated is a year younger, and the oldest (current boyfriend) is three years older. I probably wouldn't date anyone any younger than a year younger or any older than four to five years older.

I'm interested to hear what people say about this... I have a (guy) friend who is in this situation.

I've dated both younger and older. The biggest difference was when I dated a 26 year old when I was 16. I've been with the current guy for 5 years and we're the same age.

I don't really think it matters, since every situation is different.

I'll be 21 in December and my age cut off is 26. That's not set in stone though. If I met someone I liked who was a year or 2 over, I'd give it a try. I don't date anyone younger than 21. I have yet to meet anyone younger than me that I liked.

Hmm... that would make me be dating a 17 year old! Eep!

O wait... heh... I guess that was me the second half of senior year - but I was the 17 year old; my boyfriend, the 20. (It can work - we're still together.)

Maybe James is right...?

Agreed. If the person you're with makes you happy who cares (now this doesn't mean people should do anything illegal).

Yes.

Even if you share no common values since you are at such different stages of your life and have emotions based on some sort of superficiality that lacks any significance, it's OK as long as you two love each other.
