Who is more relationship oriented?

Who do you folks think is more generally relationship oriented? Girls or boys?

As in who thinks about being in a relationship more. Who feels more completed in a relationship etc.

And why do you think so?

Not at all little one. I am just challenging a stereotype that seems true, but may not be true in practice.

Honestly, among the circle of people I know it's about even.

I have no clue how that plays out among the general population, though.

I say it really depends on the person.

I had a bf propose to me and I was NO where near even thinking about getting married and it caught me SO off guard. I was only 19 at the time.

Then I also have sorority sisters who plan their weddings before the first date with a guy!

I'd have to say the same thing for my group of friends. I have girl friends who are just looking for that one night stand, and I have guy friends who really want to be in a relationship. I know there can be a stereotype that it's the other way around, but in my experience it's been split right about down the middle.

Yea, in my experience, it's been about equal as well.

Same here. I have girl friends who don't want to settle down in a million years, and I have guy friends who want to be married so bad they'd just about accept anyone. So I vote for "It depends on the person"!

Amongst my friends, its definitely the women. More than a few relationships have broken up lately because the women (35 and up) want to settle down and the men (36 and up) want to go to the hippest clubs everynight and pretend they are 23.

That's funny - in my experience, it's men.

I think this thread shows that it's fairly evenly divided.

I think that society generally thinks that it's women who are more relationship oriented, aiming to get married, etc. However, when they do surveys to measure happiness and marital satisfaction, or how quickly people re-marry after divorce, or who has a harder time coping with a break up, they all point to men. It has been shown that men benefit more from relationships, especially marriage. I can try to find some of the studies if people demand links, but this is based on things I learned in grad school, not anything I read recently.
