Bid Day activities!

What are some things your chapter does to make Bid Day (or Night) special for the new girls?

After the actual Panhellenic Bid Night activities (which consists of announcing all the PNM's one by one as they run down to join their new groups), we go back to the house to take the traditional bid night pictures. Last year we had food catered from a local sub shop for everyone. Then we just have fun playing games to help us get to know each other more.

This year our Panhellenic has hired a bid day photographer...so we do our bid day out in the oak grove where each girl announces her choice and is greeted by her new sisters with balloons and such. Then the photographer is going to take lots of different group, new member class, etc pictures.

I think we are also having a cook out at one of our sisters houses as well.

I'm in charge of recruitment...my first year ever....AHHH!!! Pretty exciting though, even though our sign up numbers are currently low.

We did several different things when I was an undergrad. The standard formula though, was flowers and balloons along with the bid card and then taking them to either a lunch (indoors if it was cold out) or a barbeque/cookout at a park right next to campus. It was always really relaxed and good fun, plus at the park we could use the playground equipment and who can resist a swingset?

There were also several years where we serenaded our new members with fun Sigma songs like "1492", which was a chapter favourite.

On Bid Day, after the new girls "come home," we go back to the house. We give the new girls a tour of the house, have cake, and sit and chat. We also give them balloons and a Bid Day shirt. They also have a short new member meeting, just to get them all on the same page. Of course, being the sorority girls we are, we take a lot of pictures!

For Eta Rho's bid day we went hung out all day and then went out to dinner...and yes we took tons of pictures. At our chapter it is not a Sigma event if when it is time to take a group pictures 12 cameras don't come out of purses and pockets...lol.
