That has to be one of the most depressing articles about an individual chapter I have ever read. Did they have an advisor, alumni group, or concerned members at any level?
The fact that an article is written saying that nobody knows what happened to them is just terrible, sort of like an unmarked grave of sorts. This gives me flash backs to the Lock Haven Chapter just going away in 2000, sight unseen...

That's almost what happened at Umass. Although we decided as a group to leave the house, once we left, we operated as a brotherhood without the LXA.
Amazingly, between 3-4 apartments, we fit in all of our membership. I would say that after the burden of the house was gone, we were actually closer and better brothers once we moved out. I know it sounds strange, but it happened.

This is always and Have Been a bone of contintion with Me!
It is time that IHQ treat Us Alums as Adults.
By stating this, I as most if not all Alums Who are interested in what is going on In LXA DOM, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly!
I think We are all Old Enough to understand.
We Need to know so that things can be put out to Members Who are Not on The LXA email list.
Trust Me. They are Not all known on the email list from IHQ!

JEZUS Tom,
Even I could get the meaning of what you said in that reply...
If there is a viable chapter at Marshall that choses to save itself then good for them. If they give up the ghost, then let them go. They have no concept of the dedication that is required to save a chapter on the brink.
I don't see any direct sanctions from the University or IHQ except the requirement that a percentage live on campus. A house does not make a chapter and a chapter does not make a house. Fraternity exists where ever two or more brothers choose to make it exist.
Perhaps Marshall will save itself, perhaps IHQ will recolonize there in a few years, either way if the brothers there are unwilling to sacrifice for the brotherhood, then we don't need them.

Yeah, EM, I agree with you partly. A chapter can save itself.
But on the other hand, GZ had been fighting an uphill battle for 5 years before we shut down. We had great recruit classes, enthusiastic, hard working, that accepted a bad situation and tried to make it better. But after years of things not getting better, your school work suffering, added stress, etc., of trying to keep a chapter open, sometimes it is just too much to ask for a group of 18-22 year olds.
It's easy to say that they didn't work hard enough or have the dedication. But I won't. Not after my situation. Sometimes when a frat puts everything into it, for years, and they keep having bad things happen (some their own doing, some mistakes, and most things they had no control over) they have to give up.
On a sinking ship, you can bail water over as fast as you can, but at some point you will get too tired and will have to abandon ship.
"They have no concept of the dedication that is required to save a chapter on the brink."
Sometimes it's not their fault. Maybe they did try? Just because you have dedication doesn't mean you will/can save a chapter. Sometimes HQ will ask a chapter to do the impossible. Sometimes the chapter themselves will attempt the impossible.
In Gamma Zeta's case/environment/situation, not much could have been done. Trust me we tried for years. We had a president fail out of school because of all the time and dedication he spent trying to save the house. He FAILED out of school because of the chapter.
Sure we probably could have saved it. But it would have also meant that we would have to spend all our own personal money, drop out of school to work on it full time, and completely end our social lives and not go home for summer or winter breaks. And part-time jobs, forget about it.
At some point, no matter how much dedication, love or hard work, it simply becomes too much for a group of 18 year olds.

Sinking Ship
I was on the Myspace Lambda Chi group page and a guy from Morehead State U said that his chapter only has one member, him. I would take it that there will no longer be a chapter at Morehead State.

There must be more to it than this?
Seemed to be active, article about House (Building), and all of a sudden, lack of Membership.
I am very saddened to hear about any Zeta being closed.
Now, I guess The question is Why?
What is the truth.
There has to be a real reason. Just Nosy I guess.
A lot would depend on what situation and circumstances stem from.
I do do know a little about it on and from My Zeta.
HONKY666, give Me a PM if You will.

Hey sorry to crash but I just thought I would let you know that I was talking to a LXA and he said that they have like 5 members. I think they got a couple from recruitment this fall. Don't take what I say as law but that's what I was told. It's horrible what is going on with their chapter. I hope they can recover. They are a great group of guys.

Hmm, Morehead State is about an hour or so drive from me.
Hadn't heard anything from them recently. Two of their alums
showed up at one of our alum events last summer.
