How hypocritical is your national GLO?
do you think they play sides to one chapter over another? for instance, will they pull the charter of the fraternity's/sorority's founding chapter if they got busted for serious hazing or death? or will they just get a slap in the wrist while other chapters get their charter taken away in a flash?
what about your biggest and strongest chapter vs. the weakest? will the strongest chapter of your GLO, who wins all of the awards, get yanked of campus?
which chapter of your GLO do you think nationals will NEVER pull charter no matter how serious the problem is? just curious.

i dont think nationals will pull our mother mu chapter.
i was talking to a sorority friend who said their nationals will probably never pull ABC chapter because the first lady was a member there.

I think just about every GLO has "that chapter" which would have to do some reeeeeeeeeeaallly bad stuff to ever get its charter pulled.

I don't think that Kappa Sig would descriminate when pulling a chapter's charter; honestly, there have been a few chapters that had been around for a while but still had their charters pulled after running into trouble.
Now, if there's an established alumni base, especially a long-standing one, I think that chapter has a better chance of being re-colonized. However, I think if something bad happened, I don't think any chapter would be immune.

Beta will yank any charter. Our alpha was yanked not long ago. Of course they were recolonized rather quickly, but I have no doubt that they would yank the best, oldest, largest, whatever with no favoritism involved.

Phi Mu is pretty strict anywhere, from what I've heard and at least seen with my chapter. Our regional reps do a great job of helping the chapter and overseeing things.
Now as far as faves, I think there are some... mainly larger southern chapters. They're always in our Aglaia for whatever reason and "chapter of the quarter".... but then again I don't know what the qualifications are for that. I duno. Our nationals is strict and some rules really suck, but it's what makes ours a great org.

well, this is off topic, but there was fraternity on my campus that was well known for hazing but the campus overlooked it because most of the buildings were named after their alumni. i don't know if their national office was aware, but eventually the chapter was closed because they documented their hazing for a documentary. there was no way around it that time!

ours its really strict, as it should be... I mean, they revoked our alpha chapter, and they are more then willing to revoke a chapter if need be. I do know some chapters that I am not sure is living up to the Beta name, but if they are they are covering it from AO really well... but in general, they are really tough

I think it is heart breaking any time a GLO has to pull a charter from one of it's chapters. I've never seen this done quickly or without putting a ton of energy and resources into trying to turn a chapter around first, no matter where they are located or who their alumnae are.

I think that if an old and distinguished chapter got in trouble, the natl. could do things not involving the charter, such as giving alumni status to all of the undergrads who don't survive an interview, and recruiting all new members.
This is probably easier for fraternities.
It's very easy for the natl. to send a letter to all of the chapter's alums saying "the chapter members refused to meet the standards you and your brothers did as undergrads, and they had these serious violations, etc. etc., so we are reorganizing." The expelled undergrads have no way to tell their story - you can assume that the natl. wouldn't give the expelled guys a set of alumni address labels, and no $$$ to buy stamps.

Mine is very straight forward about the policies. Based on my own experience as an undergrad chapter advisor, I can tell you that we do everything possible to isolate the problem and save the chapter.
I've found that the biggest issue with undergrad chapters is a lack of communication between them and the alumni advisors. Once you have established a good line of communication you can identify and stop most problems before they get out of hand and have to pull a charter.
Honestly, I feel that my sorority would pull any charter of a chapter that threatend the existance of the organization. You can't have one bad apple spoil the bunch.

Phi Delta Theta doesn't seem to to discriminate. They pulled their charter from the Indiana chapter, one of their oldest chapters.
As for us, I would think our national would be hesitant to pull their Chapter of the Year's charter unless we REALLY screwed up.

SAE did pull mother mu at Alabama
I know for a fact that SAE suspended the MU chapter at Alabama the early 90's,. I used to live in Tuscaloosa the chapter was as strong as garlic on the Alabama campus and the International still did the right thing.

I know our hq have shut down our founding chapter in the mid 90s and recolonized it in 2000.
