Hurricanes and chapters in the south

Has anyone learned of any damage from the recent storm? How have our chapters in the south fared?

I don't know. Not even cell phones seem to be working. I've been watching CNN all day and the New Orleans Police radios don't work either. I guess because of the towers and no electricity to power them.

A couple days ago I contacted an ebayer, who seemed to be a brother from Syracuse, looking for one of their guys who transferred to Florida Tech when I was in college there. He wrote back yesterday (and then called me from Ohio) with that brother's address: Naval Oceanographic Office, Bay St. Louis, MS - one of the most devastated areas. I certainly hope he's okay because wouldn't it really suck if after not seeing him for thirty years, I missed him by one day?

ZAX,
Jono

I spoke with a brother from the Lafayette Chapter and he said that Lafayette should be fine, but as for LSU and UNO, many people are already transferring because they realize they might not have a school after the hurricane....so to echo what fellow brother Tom Earp said, just keep them all in your thoughts and prayers, and hopefully they will still have a school left, and a chapter to return to.

Just got this from HQ. Most of us get this, but not all, so I thought I'd share:

LXA has started a new website for Greeks impacted by the storm. This text comes from http://www.fraternalrelief.org/index...mbda_Chi_Alpha

Headquarters Message
Good Brothers,

The General Fraternity would like to encourage all of our members throughout the United States and Canada to keep those affected by Hurricane Katrina in our thoughts and prayers.

Several members of our organization, their loved ones, and cherished friends have been impacted by this tragic event -- some enduring great loss and hardship.

Over the course of the coming weeks, we will facilitate ways for you to lend assistance and support. We will be coordinating and communicating our efforts via FraternalRelief.org.

On behalf of the Lambda Chi Alpha staff, our faith, hope, and ever-present love is extended forward to those who find themselves in need and loss.

Yours in ZAX, Always

John F. Holloway

Chapters Affected

Upsilon Zeta @ Louisiana State University

Based on Biff's conversation with Brother Eric Eskew [eeskew1@lsu.edu]the chapter house is operational. Eric also explained that all members of the chapter have been acocunted for at this time. Several brothers are currently with family and assisting with substanitial property loss and there is a fear that some members may have lost loved ones to the storm.

Iota-Omega Zeta @ University of Louisiana - Lafayette

Staff have spoken to the father of our brother Evan Thompson who explained that all computers and phone lines are down on the campus because the main communication hubs in New Orleans was destroyed. Mr. Thompson advised that he is in constant "text" communication with Evan and all members of the chapter are accounted for and safe at this time. It is unknown how deeply the loved ones of our brothers at Iota Omega Zeta have been effected at this point.

Delta-Delta Zeta @ Spring Hill College

Staff have spoken to brothers at Spring Hill and all members have been accounted for and are safe at this time. Headquarters is aware that approximatley five seperate apartments in the same complex where a majority of the chapter resided have been damaged. Many brothers have left campus and are currently with family. It is unknown at this time if any brothers have lost loved ones.

Lambda-Alpha Zeta @ University of New Orleans

Biff has spoken to Brother Richard Roberts and all members are safe and accounted for. The chapter house is feared to have been destroyed and reports range from it being totally submerged to also having it's roof blown off. Many members have fled the area and are en route to Houston and points beyond for the time being. All members are currently displaced and it is likely that many brothers at this commuter campus have suffered loss of loved ones, not to mention tremendous loss of possesions.

Sigma-Tau Zeta @ Troy University

Biff has spoken with Matt Toliver and all members are safe and acocunted for. There has not been any significant loss of property and they are awaiting word on a few friends of the chapter that live in New Orleans. The chapter is looking to work with others to provide relief efforts once opportunities are made available. This update is as of 9/1/05.

Omega Zeta @ Auburn University
Shane has spoken to the brothers and all members are accounted for. The chapter members are continuing to pray for members' families that were affected by the hurricane. The Auburn fraternities are working to provide relief efforts for storm vicitms. Thank you to Stephen Collins for providing this update on 9/1/05.

Phi-Kappa Zeta @ Auburn-Montgomery
No update available as of 9/1/05 @ 2:00 pm central time.

Theta-Eta Zeta @ Millsaps College
No update available as of 9/1/05 @ 2:00 pm central time.

[b]Epsilon-Chi Zeta @ Mississippi State University[b]
No update available as of 9/1/05 @ 2:00 pm central time.

Missing/Relocated Members
If your chapter is unable to contact one of its members, please include their name and last known whereabouts.

We also want to hear if you are a member and are OK.

Andy, Great and Sad news at the very same time

I ,and I am sure all of us here really appreciate your updating us.

News said UNO was on dry ground, but in the situation in the area, that doesnt mean much as such devestation.

A lot of the Schools up here are offering deals for Students from the schools there.

UMKC, Un. Mo, Un. Ks, Ks. S U, RockHurst U. All of these have LXA Zetas except Rockhurst.

What a tragic and tramatic experience for all envolved.

Andy, give Me a call, and will update You on My Situation!

If there are any brothers from UNO reading these posts, please send me a PM (and yes, I have emptied the mailbox out so people CAN write to me).

Bill, I would like to add any Brothers from the affected Zetas.

Please let us know how you are doing!

I know Russell L, Past H A from FIT, Jonos Zeta=BN was affected, not because He was there, but because He got a lot of His Family out and Were/Are living with Him in Houston.

Brother R L, Good Kuddos To You Our Brother!
