another recipe question

Does anyone here have any good Italian dessert recipes that are easy to make? The boy's coming up next weekend and I'm making him penne alla vodka and garlic bread. To continue with the theme, I was going to make an Italian dessert, but I can't seem to find an easy recipe. I really wanted to make Tiramisu but all the recipes call for Mascarpone cheese and I have no clue what it is or where do buy it.

My aunt used to always make this but I'm not sure if it's Italian. It's just layered and I guess you have to use instant pudding. She always used Pistachio and Chocoloate but I guess you can use whatever. Layers go:

Graham crackers laid out flat on bottom

layer of chocolate pudding

layer of flat graham crackers

layer of pistachio

layer of graham crackers.

Sometimes if you want after that has cooled, put a layer of cool whip on top. It's soooo good.

here is a site with a bunch of italian dessert recipes. Some of them look really good. At the bottom of the tiramisu recipe, it says:" *Note: If mascarpone cheese is unavailable, blend 1 lb. cream cheese with1/2 cup heavy cream. That might be your solution.

I would think that you should be able to get the marscapone in a deli or specialty store. I've bought it in the specialty cheese section of my local supermarket.

Oooh! I love tiramisu but I've never made it before. Here's another site that talks about the cheese and what you can use to substitute it if you can't find it.

ETA because I'm absentminded

You could always go for coffee and biscotti instead, or italian ice, or even spumoni.

Oh! Now, check this link out if you like chocolate!

Rachel Ray does a super easy dessert where she pours limoncello over vanilla ice cream. You could try that...

Typically you can find Mascarpone in tubs. In the grocery stores here, it located near most of the other soft cheeses like bries, foreign cheeses and things like that.
Otherwise, if your city has an Italian grocery store, they will carry it.
I also have a really good tiramisu recipe, using mascarpone that I'd be happy to PM you. It's not too hard to make and I generally make that ahead of time.
That Limoncello idea of RedRoseSAI's also sounds excellent.
