GSUgirl's rush experience
Hi Everyone,
I just now completed my registration and decided to share my rush experience with all of you. This will be my first time going through formal rush and the whole thing is a bit overwhelming in a way. I've actually already started going through rush, so I'll leave this one as an intro to the thread and then post my experience with it in the next post.
There are 5 sororities at Georgia State, but in the interest of secrecy and surprises I'll name them as follows:
London
Paris
Copenhagen
Rome
Athens
For a little bit of information on how GSU does rush:
Wednesday was Suite Viewing with our Pi Chi groups
Thursday is Open House (5 parties for 20 minutes each)
Friday is Sisterhood Day (5 parties for 40 minutes each)
Saturday is Philanthropy Day (3 parties for 45 minutes each)
Sunday morning is Pref (2 parties for 1 hour each)
Sunday night is Bid Night
More from me in the next post!

Ok, well as I said earlier I will post about my experience with Rush so far. Let me start by saying that everyone I have met so far has been amazing and that GSU has some amazing sororities and Greek women on it's campus.
Yesterday was Open House and Today was Sisterhood Day. I'm going to combine the two in my comments because both of these days are open with no cuts happening. I had the opportunity to meet a lot of different women and talk with them about their philanthropy, academic excellence, and sisterhood events. My comments below mainly deal with how I felt during the rounds with each group.
London - I really enjoyed meeting the girls in this group. The conversation seemed to flow fairly easily and I was able to meet a fair number of girls the first night, although not as many the second night. Tonight the girls did a cute song and dance and the song stayed in my head for a while afterwards.
Paris - The girls in this sorority seemed really nice and sweet, but I didn't feel any connection like I had in the previous party. The room decorations were great, though, and the girls obviously put a lot of work into their songs/skit. Something just seemed to be missing, though, mainly because conversations seemed a bit choppy at times.
Copenhagen - I think I fell in love with this group the second I walked into the room. I just felt comfortable and was able to relax around these women. While I didn't speak with a lot of girls the first night, I spoke with a lot of them tonight and felt a connection. Their song was great too. Another song running through my head.
Rome - I think the easiest way to say how it felt in this group was uncomfortable. The conversation made me feel like I was pulling teeth at times. I know some of the girls in this group and I guess that just goes to prove that just because you click with a couple of people, you should see if you might or night not click with this group as a whole.
Athens - It's the end of the night and this group still had TONS of energy. I had the opportunity to meet a fairly large number of this sorority's members and enjoyed my conversations with each one. Great songs from this group too which will probably join the other two in my head as I go to bed.
A funny story about tonight (which I used as an icebreaker of sorts). The two Pi Chis with my group started dancing in a goofy way which made me start laughing. I guess I needed a good laugh because I started crying from laughing so hard. By the time they realized it, we had about 30 second before the next party was to start. So there I was, wiping tears away, when the doors opened. I explained it to my first girl (and a few others) at the party and we all thought it was funny. Nice icebreaker, I must say...
Well, we rank the sororities tonight and find out where we go back to tomorrow at 11:30 AM. So far my top five are:
Copenhagen
Athens
London
Paris
Rome
More from me later.....

Well, I'm sorry to say that I got the dreaded phone call this morning letting me know that I had been released from rush. While it does hurt a little, I realize that as a transfer/older student, I might not have been a good match for the sororities at Georgia State.
For those curious about who was who in my visits/comments, they are the following:
London - Zeta Tau Alpha
Paris - Alpha Xi Delta
Copenhagen - Alpha Omicron Pi
Rome - Phi Mu
Athens - Delta Zeta
I truly enjoyed going through rush and meeting so many amazing women not only in the sororities but also in my Pi Chi group. If you want to read my upcoming article for the online campus magazine you can check it out at www.rampway.org. When you get to the page, click on staff and then Ansley Buck (sorry, but the pic still hasn't been uploaded). You should then see the article.
Thanks to those on Greek Chat who wished me well this past week.
Here's my article

GSUgirl1977,
I'm sorry to hear that you were released from recruitment. It seems like they should have told you up front about the age range.
I will read your upcoming article for the online campus magazine.

Wow! I think it's awesome that things didn't go exactly you're way and you still wrote an awesome article and took away with you a lesson and many memories! Good luck with whatever comes now and hopefully you'll stay on GC.

Your article was awesome!!!!
And I say if you are still interested in Greek life and your school does this, try COR.
Formal is just that, formal. Each chapter has to follow the specific NPC rules while COR each chapter has their own set of guidelines.
But GOOD LUCK in whatever you do!!!!
