Weird Medication Reactions

Ok not that these are a funny situation, but I saw prednisone mentioned in another thread and thought about a funny reaction I had to it.

I thought the prescription said take 3 teaspoons 3 times a day, when it only said take 3 teaspoons per day. (you could take one at a time or whatever) So I go ahead and take all 3 at once. I bowled excellent that night but I just felt like hitting someone. My muscles were all tight and I seriously had this feeling of just hitting someone to see how hard I could hit them. So I come home from bowling, go to take another dosage (3 teaspoons). I take one, and then realize what teh bottle really says. I called my parents freaking out because I thought I was gona overdose and need to get my stomach pumped. I called my ex who was on the same medication and is an ex-druggie and he said I'd be fine. It's pretty funny when I look back on it now.

Anyone else have any stories that now they look back and laugh?

I was on penicillin for 5 years, and my docotor started me on an acne med. called Monocyclin *sp?*. Well, about a week later I wound up with 2 trips to the ER the last one resulting in a 2 1/2 day stay due to a reaction between both drugs. I was swollen up and all itchy. It sucked big time.

Great way to start off senior year of highschool, right?

Freshman year of college I had sinusitis. I get that pretty often (at least once a year) and my doctor usually gives me amoxicillin for it. When I got it, I went to Health Services at school and they gave me Doxycycline which was supposed to be better because you take less of it, for a shorter period of time. After taking just one pill, I got really nauseous and dizzy and started throwing up, my head was throbbing, my entire body ached, and I was shaking. I seriously felt worse from the medication than from being sick.

Unhappy 1st Ambulance Ride...

I wound up with a ride in the ambulance and free trip to emergency because my doctor's failed to realize that comprazine interacts with some other meds I was on causing tardive dyskinesia (that's what PDR calls it)...

I had the flu: 103 fever, chills, nausea. They gave me comprazine for the vomiting... Did not give me the best directions for the dayum stuff--take 1 every 6 hours as long as you feel nauseous. So I followed the doctors orders...

The next day, my tougue flattened and pulled back and I couldn't breathe because of it and it was pale, my body contorted and I looked like I had cerebral palsy... Somehow, I made another trip to the doctor and got the same reply from a physcian: "Oh, you're sick, and don't take comprazine unless you're nauseous... " Well, I felt nauseous--so I took the drug like they said I should...

Then the next day same issue...

So, I was driving (don't ask why ) someone back to a bus station and she could only speak Spanish--she told me to stop driving and said "let's call 9-1-1"... I pulled over, and she called on my cell phone, but they couldn't speak Spanish at 9-1-1!!! We're talking SoCal and no Spanish speakers at 9-1-1!!! Anyhow, she hung up, called again and got someone...

Man, did they send out the whole brigade for me!!! I could hear just fine, but couldn't respond and writing was an issue... Then, EMT dude looked at me ONCE and said: "Hey, that looks like a comprazine reaction, hadn't seen one of those in years!!!"

So needless to say, I got a nice drip of benadryl and was told to NEVER take comprazine again by the emergency staff at the hospital...

Oh, and I figured out why I was so nauseous... Since I was vomiting, I really didn't like toilet bowl worshipping, so I didn't eat... I was nauseous because I was hungry--not because being sick...

And at the time, everyone I knew: my parents and my brother was out of town except a close friend of mine that had to pick me up. My parents had to take the flight the next day and get me...

One morning, when I was a senior in college, I woke up and realized that I was coming down with a bad cold and would not make it through the day without medication. I took Drixoral, which is to this day my cold medicine of choice, and I went off to my morning classes.

At noon, I met my then-boyfriend/now-husband for lunch. I was feeling great, and had totally forgotten that I'd taken any meds, so with my lunch, I had a beer.

Then I went off to my afternoon lecture: statistics.

Drixoral + alcohol + statistics = one very sleepy aephi alum.

I'm glad I don't snore.

Mine was intentional by the Dr. During my last pregnancy I started bleeding heavily while on hospital bedrest (go figure). I was scared to death. The OB/GYN on call took one look at my face and gave me an IV with Phenergan (nausea med) mixed with some kind of pain killer..... Believe me when I tell you - all of a sudden I felt like I was floating on air for the rest of the night. Instant calmness. The Dr. told me that was what it was designed to do.

This didn't end up happening, but I was on a medication once (can't remember what for, I think it was some sort of antibiotic) and it said one of the side effects was "lip smacking"! Can you imagine walking around and suddenly your mouth starts smacking uncontrolably!!!
