When I assisted with Delta Upsilon's installation, they were given an "outline" of what to plan for the weekend. I went in a few days early to help with final setup and to administer the colony test.
There is a Banquet that night after installation to plan for, but other than that, I can't remember much else (sorry this was 2 years ago)!

If you don't have a date, I wouldn't worry yet. They will be there to assist you where they can. If you are iniviting parents to the banquet you could start getting everyone's address, maybe look for a location to have the banquet etc. To be honest, you can plan a banquet pretty quickly, a months notice would be more than sufficient, we've done dinners that were announced a week in advance. You'll have more price control if it is farther out, but National will let you know when they figure it out. I imagine it is a lot of schedules to take into account. I would rather focus on passing the test and bonding w/your chapter. This will fall into place and if you need help planning, there are many places to ask for that. Good luck and congrats!

First of all...congrats to you!!! Which colony is this, btw?
Second of all, listen to what eliz and E said. Someone from the National Staff will tell you what you need to do. One of the big things will be reserving a space for initiation and planning the banquet. When you reserve the space for initiation, Staff will tell you what kind of room you will need, so don't freak out about that. We've done initiations in all sorts of rooms, so we can make it work...but you do need to pay attention and follow what they tell you.
The banquet is the best part....that's where your charter and gavel and all the fun stuff is officially presented to your chapter. Make it pretty and memorable for all of you. I'm sure you can start brainstorming locations and decoration ideas now. Where do the other groups on campus go for their formals or awards banquets? That might give you some ideas (you won't have dancing at your banquet, but you might be able to get some location ideas in your town).
Relax!!!! Staff will help you plan everything!!! The thing to remember is to not procrastinate once they give you the dates and tell you what you need to do.
Enjoy!!! And let us know when the happy day is!!!

PsychTau,
This is for the Delta Omega colony (PSU-Altoona.)
Passionsast,
Hey Alexis! How is Harrisburg treating you? You'll have to make another road trip soon. Are you coming to Jennie's BBQ in August? Let me know.

Congratulations!!! I know how exciting that is; we (Delta Chi) just got installed this April.
Don't worry tooo much until school starts back, but some preliminary things you can do are - Buy fancy paper (to print invitations on) and envelopes
- Make a list of people to invite, including folks on campus like teachers and presidents of other sororities and fraternities. Do you want to invite girls from a nearby chapter(s)? Which one?
- Practice for the colony exam if you haven't taken it yet!
- If you have a retreat this summer, find out who wants to be on the installation committee (booking a room, making invites, etc.).
Good luck!

DOmega Installation
Hey, Alexis!
Everyone has given great advice so far-- your EC will come in a few days early to help with all the final preps, but listen to LightBulb over there-- she's an old hand at this :0) She was a colony woman for almost 2 years, and Delta Chi's installation went perfectly, in large part because the new chapter girls were so on the ball with everything :0) I might meet you that weekend-- I'm Danielle C's big sis, and I'm going to try to make it! :0)
