My two best friends and I would always talk about how we always wanted to be sorority sisters one day. The day that we arrived at UCF, rush began and pretty soon we realized that we all had completely different personalities and would probably end up in completely different sororities. One of my friends went Tri-Delta, the other went Kappa Delta, and I went Zeta. The great thing is that I think we are better friends now that we have gone off to different sororities than ever before. So, if there's anyone out there reading this post who's worried about not getting into the same sorority as their best friend, don't worry! You may end up being even better friends!

My mother grew up on the fringes of a university, right in the middle of the sorority houses, and I hoped that one day I would rush. Then when I went to that university, which was out of state for me, and knew no one--and I was scared because I was just 16--I knew I had to rush!

I'm not in a sorority yet,but the reason why I'm wanting to be greek is because of the sisterhood. I am a only child and the thought of having so many people around to give you a helping hand just leaves speechless. Since me and my friend has started trying to bring a chapter of a certain sorority to our school, you would not believe all the emails we have gotten from the other chapters wishing us luck and offer a helping hand if we need it.
Plus the opportunity to meet new people and experience different things and just the opportunity to grow as a person is just something that you just can't get anywhere else.

I decided to go Greek years before I got to college. It was just a matter of finding the right match when I got there. I never knew anything about the sororities until I got to college though (no internet then!) and my cousin was in an NPHC sorority. She thought I would join hers, but I knew I wasn't!

I, too, am an only child, and the sisterhood aspect was a big part of my wanting to be greek. Also, its a big part of life at LSU and I wanted to be a part of it - to feel like an integral part of student life on this campus. There's nothing saying that I couldn't be without joining a greek org, but they are so powerful here, its one of the best ways to contribute to the LSU community

I knew I was going to go greek as well. I just didn't think I would sign where I did. I know it sounds hokey, but I walked into the chapter lodge and saw the coat of arms on the wall and although I KNOW I had never seen it before, there was something familiar about it. It was like I had seen it before, but I knew I hadn't. Fortunately I had learned befor that to listen to the feeling in my gut. I signed and have been nothing but happy.

Why did you?
I was just wondering what made everyone that went Greek, go Greek? Was it a legacy, a friend, or a feeling you had when you started visiting houses?
For me, my mother was Greek and to be difficult, I decided that I wouldn't be. Then I got to college and saw the sisterhood of the chapters. I'm an only child so that was good for me.

I've wanted to be Greek since I can remember. To the point where I didn't go to a certain private school BECAUSE there was no greek life, other than academic...I can't decide if that is nutty, or what...
I had also wanted to be on Student Government, and be a camp counselor, and I've done all three!!!

i decided i wanted to go greek for a couple of reasons... my mother was greek; i saw how she had these freinds from all over the country that she would get together with once a month just to catch up and i thought that was amazing! i love getting involved... i love helping the community and doing crazy events for charity.. it's so much fun and the best feeling is knowing you're making a difference. i've always wanted a core group that i know i could depend on hrough thick and thin, and my sorority has done that thus far :-)

I didn't plan on going Greek-didn't go through rush, but at the start of the spring semester, the organization sent me an invitation to help colonize a new chapter, and the excitement of being in on starting something new got me. I like building things up from scratch.

I went to a large state school as a freshman with no opinion one way or another on the Greek system. I realized early on I was going back to Texas to a smaller school. While at the large school I was informally rushed but told them I was transferring. So when I did transfer, I went through rush and pledged.
Not only was it a good experience overall, the lasting friendships still endure. Also, I became very active as an alum for many years....you can participate long after you graduate.

Well, to be honest, I really didn't know what the greek system was like until I got to college. I had sworn against them due to the 'TV/Movie' hype I had seen previously. Then when I got there, as a music major, I saw SAI, one of the big things people kept pushing was--it will look good on resume to be a part of a professional fraternity. So I looked into it. I saw that this was not just a 'resume helper' but it was a lot of fun too! I loved music, I loved community service, so I said--Cool! I wanna join! So I pledged SAI in the Spring. Well, the next fall, all my friends were running around like chickens with their heads cut off about informal rush. So just to please a friend who BEGGED me to go with her to a social sorority rush party, I went to one. Delta Zeta was it! I fell in love with the sorority and the girls. They were very diverse and had a great reputation. They spoke openly about what they stood for and really had a passion for it. So I fell head over heals AGAIN for another greek organization. I thought, how cool would it be if a music major joined DZ--a sorority dedicated to aid the hearing impaired. How much joy someone could have from the healing powers of music! Even if they are hearing impaired! I could really use MY talent to help someone learn and appreciate something that they might never have experienced before. AFter really thinking about what it would mean to be part of TWO greek organizations, I decided to go for it. I loved every moment!

I used to run cross country and track at USF and i tore my achilles which pretty much ended my running career. When i transferred to UNF i was like ya know...i used to make fun of greeks but i wonder what they were really about. So i checked them out and i really liked what i saw. I chose Sigma Chi cause it IS for life and the awesome christian history/background of the fraternity....best decision ever. coolest thing about sigma chi is being able to go to another chapter to party and i feel like im an active brother there. Sigma Chi i think is the most respected fraternity nation-wide as well. As John Wayne once said,"Men join fraternities, but the leaders of those men join SIGMA CHI!" In Hoc Signo Vinces boys!!!
PS. ZTAngel....tell veronica i said wazzzzup! :-)

I went to an engineering school with a 5 to 1 guy to girl ratio. So if I wanted to bond with a group of women I needed to join a sorority. Also my boyfriend at the time was in a fraternity so heencouraged me to go greek.
