Cool Caribana

Well it's that time of year again!

Let the long weekend party begin - great food, great drinks, and great parties

Anyone else going to be partying around T.O.?

I've lived in Toronto all my life and have never been to Caribana.

I'm not much for large crowds and parades anyway. Plus it's always so ridiculously hot. It's the really weather that keeps me away.

Instead I left the city for the weekend.

I hope anybody who attended had a great time.

Had a blast.... though I ate waaaaaay too much.... but everything was just so good

Unfortunately though it looks like this Caribana was a violent and deadly as ever: the post Caribana clean-up produced a candidate for the stupidest gang-banger of the year - some guy shot a killed someone in front of 6 or 7 dozen cops... and in front of the mobile command centre set-up for the weekend.

I had no idea that Caribana was violent. My friend went a few years ago. She had big fun.

Did you also know that there is a gay black pride festival concurrent to Caribana? Isn't it ironic??

I will probably go one of these years so I hope to meet some of the Toronto GCers, especially RACooper. I heard he's cool.

Well gee thanks

The problem with Caribana is that the last few years have seen local gangs/thugs use it as an oppurtunity to settle scores... so every year we see a few shootings and a few stabbings...

However I should point out that any violence is rare and isolated... the biggest problems cops deal with are the usual: drunk and disorderly, lewd conduct, pot, and people using the crowd to cop-a-feel...

I don't like big crowds either, so I never go to Caribbana or Gay Pride. I haven't been to the Santa Claus Parade since I was young enough to Believe. I very, very, very close to the parade route though.

When I was little I used to go to the Santa Claus Parade. But I still never had to deal with the crowds because my mum's office building looked right onto the parade route. We could sit up in the offices and have food and drink hot chocolate and never had to stand in the cold and the wet.

One day I'll have to go. I'll have to suck it up and deal with the heat. Why is it always so hot when it's Caribbana??

A friend of mine said something about going for a day to caribana..and I had no clue that it was last weekend! I completely forget all about it!

I used to go..it was so much fun, mostly because of the food, the parties and the out-of-towners..

I guess maybe next year :-(
