Eric Milton is on pace to give up 1000000 home runs this year. Russ Ortiz is always a contender as well. J.D. Drew went out and got hurt, just like every other year.

ETA: Beltran hasn't been so bad this year.

Steve Finley?

Adrian Beltre?

How do you want to rank this? I mean, Beltran's not even close, Arya, no matter how homeriffic you're feeling . . . VORP/$? overall performance? Screwing the team the most?

Trading Phil Nevin and getting absolutely nothing in return.

Chan hasn't been the same since the All-Star game when Cal Ripken hammered one off of him.

I'm irritated at this. Yeah, Philllip is somewhat of a hothead. But the man is 34 years old and went and squatted in catcher's gear for two games because he wanted to help his team.

Park isn't all that. He better be glad that Scotty Boras represented him.

Exactly - he's a guy who puts up mediocre numbers year after year, and he still gets paid year after year.

How 'bout "No", Scott . . .

Nevin is a piece crap:

AVG .OBP SLG HR VORP
.256 .306 .399 9 4.1

His WARP3 is currently 0.9 . . . which is absolutely awful for his position.

He's also an awful fielder - RATE3 of 95 (avg is 100) at first and certainly below average as a catcher as well.

He's in his age-34 season, and makes essentially as much as Park.

Park's numbers:

ERA K/9 K/BB..... IP VORP
5.66 6.6 80/53 107.8 1.2

These aren't good, but they're slightly above league-average, and especially within the context of the Rangers. If we account for the fact that he's played in a bandbox and in front of an AWFUL defense (and is now a sinkerballer who has been relying on Soriano, and MYoung who is a converted 2b) his dERA drops to 5.10. His batting average on balls in play is like .353, which is insanely high - a pitcher's park may return Park to being serviceable again.

I'm serious too - his strike rate is back up to near his LA levels, and with the expansive Petco he might just keep it in the park.

Bottom line: this was an exchange of useless parts.

The benefit to your beloved Pads? Now Xavier Nady can play 1B, Fick can fill at C and they can find out if Dave Ross has the pop needed to be a useful player. Plus, for essentially the same money, they get a pitcher to fill in while they work Eaton et al back into the rotation. It's worth taking a flier, for sure.

Not a bad move by the Padres, not at all. Nevin carried exactly ZERO trade value.

I thought the Yankees signing Embree and Nomo was bad but I am sure they got them cheap. Getting rid of Quantrill for Darrell May and Tim Redding was probablly worse.

I need to get a subscription to baseball prospectus.

On the Quantrill trade - he was having a horrendous season, and last season wasn't much better. I wouldn't say that the trade was all that bad (even if May and Redding end up doing nothing).

Embree and Nomo came cheap - no harm in picking them up.

Sure, though it doesn't really matter anyway. Does anyone expect the winner of the NL West to beat the Cards?

Maybe I'm upset because the SD media treated trading Nevin like it was Ruth for Cash deal.

Good job Kevin, I never thought an ol' Boys network would work in SD.

San Diego just got him so he could drop kick someone.

Whoops.

Drop kick, then miss, get your leg caught and thrown to the ground and then cover your face as it gets pounded.

What would have been really cool was if Chan Ho did some sort of flip, did a little bruce lee, " whooooaaaa TAHHH!!!!!" or a " Hiiiiiiiii YAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!"

And ofcourse, then get his ass beat again.

If you ever want your team to win a brawl, just sign Kyle Farnsworth. That's all he is good for.

I think one of the biggest disappointments of the year has been the Dodgers signings of Jose Valentine.

We all thought this latino 80's pornstache version of Kent was going to give his 350, 40 jacks and 118 RBIs!

Right!?!? Thats what we thought RIGHT!?!?!

Hang Depodesta! Chop off McCourts head! Send those stupid Bostonians back to Boston so they can ruin some other team!

DePo's welcome in my front office any day . . . and latinostache is back starting today, so you'll get your healthy dose of .220/.335/.500, causing massive LA 'uproar' (ok, maybe Anande will write one column) over meaningless batting average numbers even though he's smashing homers and driving in runs.

I love LA.
