10 Commandments costs GA town $150,000

A small north GA town has agreed to take down the 10 commandments plaque in the Courthouse, and pay the ACLU $150,000 for their legal fees.

What a waste of the taxpayers money.

I agree that having the 10th Commandment was a waste of taxpayer money. Shouldn't be there in the first place.

A whole bunch of small towns quickly found out the cost of posting the 10 Commandments, and I suspect that many plaques are now removed and hidden away.

This will probably be a litmus test for the new Supreme's confirmation hearings.

Wasn't there something like this in Texas too?

If I remember correctly the Texas gov't property got to keep it out?

In most of the cases about which I've heard, the plaques where simply moved across the street, or otherwise off of governmental property. That reminded me of George Carlin's take on the situation:

"The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments in a Courthouse? You cannot post "Thou Shalt Not Steal," "Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery" and "Thou Shall Not Lie" in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians...It creates a hostile work environment."
