Recruitment
Howdy Fellows,
Well, school started today, and of course recruitment too. As most of you know, Im from a colony, so all this recruitment stuff is new to us. Our last recruitment failed, so we really need to make this one rock. We have some excellent events plan and Im actually in charge of a few. What I want to know is a the best way to get people there? The college is about 2000 people, and we have deferred rush so no freshman right now. I mean, thats the biggest problem, because we dont go to the most progreek school and well, i just dont know, i can see a good solution thatll fit at my school. What do you guys think?

It can be difficult.
Continous Rush is by far the best way. I think some chapters get to into themselves. A great brotherhood is important, but you also need to go out and meet other people.
A few ideas
-campus wide poker tournament
-BBQs
-Parties
-RTS

I am not really sure here, but I don't think kegs are going to attract the kind of guys you're looking for. In today's day-in-age, with the recent binge-drinking deaths across campuses in America, you might be better suited to try some things like.
1. Take your group of rushees lasertagging
2. Take your main group of rushees (the guys you really want), golfing. (good way to get to know them)
3. Have an informational rush event, and have successful alumni attend, and speak about how Beta helped them, and also have them speak about the importance of education and career
4. Anything with sororities - let's face it, dudes dig chicks. If your house hangs with the hot chicks, you'll get guys - just be selective, you don't want douchebags.

thanks, these help... we dont recruit with alcohol, and sororities are not allowed to get involved...
I think we have some pretty sweet Rush events set up like we got a skybox to the Columbus Crew Game and we are having a formal dinner thing... but how do we get guy TO those events... I mean, in an anti-greek enviornment, and where we DONT live in chapter houses, its so damn hard

For you, continous rush is going to be very big. With a deferred rush, you should be able to use that to your advantage.
It sounds like you have some great events planned, but location is only so much.
First EVERYONE in your chapter has to be there. Considering this is during the school year, this probably isn't as big of problem as it is for my chapter (we do summer rush).
Second, members must talk to rushees. You can't just let the recruitment chairs do all the talking, brothers need to talk to rushees, and befriend them. Will also make any discussion you have about a potential pledge more fruitful, if guys can actually say they talked to him.
Third, be selective.
To get guys to your current events, fliers will only go so far. If you can, set up a table at the dining hall, or some other central campus location. Hand out pencils, or candy, or something with your fliers. Have more than just two people there, hopefully get a group of guys, including your most outgoing members who will approach guys as they walk past. While you can't have sorority girls officially, if there are a bunch of them just hanging out at your table - that's probably legal. Here's your chance to take advantage of the girls ( ie the fact that they are much more attractive than you).
Finally for when you do freshman rush, make it a requirement that every member bring at least 2 freshman to at least one event. Guys from class, guys from work, guys from some other club.

One thing that I found as recruitment chair that helped me a lot was to let girls recruit for me. I had all my female friends and girl friends of other brother's bring guys up.
We had some really good guys show up. The type of guys you want, will follow where the girls are.

it being deferred rush we dont rush or cant even try to rush freshman until December, so the hard thing is getting sophs who already are settled in with their school life to get involved. Ill let you guys know how it goes

i would say that is exactly really similar to our campus. aim for transfer students. go to their living areas to promote your activities. a visible t-shirt is a must. just be nice and genuine. and dont get into the numbers game. hit up some clubs already on campus, i.e. AS, and under represented groups, like fuso or mecha if you have em.
good luck
