I noticed that the "Pledged" thread sisters have put down why they joined a sorority in the first place. So I thought it would be cool to start a thread about "why I joined ADPi". I'm sure there is another thread out there but I wasn't gonna go searching through or 20+ pages I think we have.
So I guess I'll start...
I guess I always knew I wanted to join a sorority. I didn't buy into the cliche that they were party animals or sluts or whatnot that the TV's portrayed them as. I just saw a bunch of girls becoming friends and developing a bond and whatnot. But at the time my "sorority" experiences were limited to 90210 and Saved by the Bell: The College Years, LOL.
When I went away to U of A, a bunch of my high school friends when through formal recruitment. One became a Chi-O another an Alpha Phi. I really thought that I would go Chi-O because of my friend. I never even made it to their house.
See at U of A spring recruitment is much more laid back (as it usually is if there is a formal recruitment). There were still two nights of open parties and then pref night. But the difference was that you could leave the house any time you wanted and then go to another one.
I actually knew nothing about ADPi. I met some girls from my dorm and the surrounding dorms when I was walking to the MU for the "informational meeting". One of the girls had gone through FR but had to drop out due to being sick (Pneumonia I believe). But she had been invited back to ADPi all those times, so that was the house she wanted to go too. Since I really didn't even know where the houses were on campus I was like "whatever".
I went there and I felt so incredibly comfortable. I met a few sisters who actually went to a rival high school up in Phoenix and so we chatted about the rivalry. Then come to discover that we were either all in band/choir at the same time. It was really awesome. Each and every sister just made me feel so incredibly welcome. I loved every second I spent there that night and was disappointed when the night ended and I had to head back to my dorm.
I was invited back the next night and that is when I received my bid. I remember that I was sitting with a group of about five to six girls and one of the sisters, being such a sweetie, had run to her room to get me some contact solution because my contact was getting really dry and about to fall out. The president came over, said she wanted to ask me something. She asked if I wanted to do it in private and I said "no, you can tell me here" (in front of the sisters). She then said "we want to extend to you a bid to join Alpha Delta Pi". She then told me I could "think about it". I told her that I "didn't need to think about it and that my answer was yes". Within seconds the group of sisters I was chatting with were hugging me and screaming and saying "congratulations". I think within minutes the entire house knew I accepted the bid and other sisters were coming up and congratulating me.
So there is my story about why I joined ADPi. Can't wait to read some of the others out there.
