Toddler Found Home Alone; Mother Arrested

A 22-year-old East County woman is scheduled to be arraigned Monday for allegedly leaving her toddler son home alone for hours, or perhaps even days, authorities reported.

Christina Maria Lampinen of La Mesa is scheduled to appear at 1:30 p.m. Monday the El Cajon courthouse, where she will enter a plea to a charge of felony child endangerment, La Mesa police and San Diego County sheriff's officials said.

She was being held in lieu of $30,320 bail at the Las Colinas Detention Facility, authorities reported.

Patrol officers responding to a request to check on the welfare of the 2-year-old found Lampinen's boy by himself in the family's apartment on Valley View Circle in La Mesa around 11 a.m. yesterday, La Mesa police Lt. Allen White said.

The boy was in a "very soiled diaper" in a room that "contained several items that could have injured him," White said.

"The mother was nowhere to be found," White said. "Neighbors were contacted, and they had not seen or heard from the mother for several days."

The child's father, a sailor en route to Hawaii, also had been unable to contact the woman since Sunday, according to investigators.

Shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday, officers spotted Lampinen as she was driving home. They pulled her over and arrested her on suspicion of felony child endangerment, White said.
