Beta Zeta Chapter's Stork Nest Celebration
Quote:
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. & March of Dimes Celebrate 20 Year Partnership to Give DC Babies a Healthy Start
Early prenatal care is critical to ensuring a healthy start for newborns. Yet in Washington DC less than 70 percent of babies born to African American mothers receive this vital care according to March of Dimes statistics. For Hispanic moms, it’s 73 percent. The national average for African American and Hispanic moms is 75 and 76 percent respectively – far below the 90 percent Healthy People 2010 goal set by the US Department of Health and Human Services.
To help address this critical gap, the Stork’s Nest, a unique national partnership between Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and the March of Dimes, is giving babies a healthy head start. Each year, nearly 200 Stork’s Nests across the nation are ensuring the delivery of vital prenatal care services to more than 28,000 low-income expectant mothers. Early prenatal care ensures healthier babies, lowers the risks of premature delivery and other serious pregnancy-related problems. But, more importantly, problems can be identified and addressed early on, thereby improving pregnancy outcomes.
