Question Sorority After College

I have been chatting with friends of various organizations and it has become a great concern and question to myself as to Why is it that after people graduate from college they tend to loose there love, well to better word they become less active in their organizations? I know many who continue with the life, but I know even more who stray away. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this and wanted to know your opinion as to what you think about the whole ordeal.

Well I think that Life can be very hard. And Greek Life just adds to it. Many members after they graduate just need a little break. Everyone knows how difficult the time after graduation can be. We all have to remember that we are WOMEN first. So if a soror has to take some time off to find a job, apartment, and get settled in a new life, then so be it. She can come back to Sigma once she's more secure, and we'll welcome her with open arms. She deserves that much after working so hard (as us Sigma Women do) for up to 3 years.
As for those members that become "permamnently" inactive, I can't offer a reason for them. I just hope that doesn't happen to me.

i agree with SOLO's view. also i believe that all too often many young ladies in the undergaduate level look at the glamor of being in a sorority. some do not realize the level of commitment that is needed during undergrad and after. therefore, they are all hype during those college years and figure after graduation all they have to do is wear nalia and thats it!!

Well thinking about this topic, I finally found out one goood thing about being at a cummuter school.

We all live here and will live here (for at least a year or two after graduation)
Our grad chapter here is very very active and keeps us on our toes. So as soon as we cross that stage they are on the phone telling you that there will be a grad meeting on Saturday and if you can't get out there someone will be there to pick you up....lol.

Interesting. The demands of life outside of college tend to diminish the amount of time one has to spend on one's organization. Career, marriage and family are just a few things that take up a woman's time once she has graduated from college. Negative undergrad experiences also serve to diminish a woman's desire to be active in her organization's graduate chapter. The primary deterrent for myself was the cost. It has only been recently that I have been able to afford the price of graduate level dues. I was one of a growing number of college graduates who couldn't get a good paying job when I graduated.
I'm sure that there are several other reasons why there are so many inactive members in sororoties.

Thumbs down

A lot sorhors don't have any interest in the sorority after graduation is because they joined for the wrong reasons to begin with. We want people to join but we are not setting the example!! I look at Sigma Gamma Rho as a part of my life as well as other things. Yes, it may not be the most important part of my life but it is part of it. I guess alot sorhors don't remember the second sentence in our Sorority's pledge. You know some sororities and I know you know who I am talking about; have more new woman in there graduate chapters than in there undergrad. And there Grad chapters still enter step shows winning money for their chapters!! You rarely see an SGRHO Grad chapter get live like that. And this pisses me off because we let this happen. Then we sit around and wonder why people don't want to join!!! Then more sorhors figure it is a waste of time and become inactive for this reason as well.
