Spike Lee Joint.."She Hate Me."

I recently purchased this movie after awaiting its release in MI., but it was banned.

Nonetheless, the movie is about a brother that loses his job after blowing the whistle on his corporation and results to selling his sperm to wealthy lesbians in DC for a profit($10,000.00). If you have not seen it, GO TO YOU NEAREST CIRCUIT CITY AND GET IT. Spike does an excellent job at exposing how greed can effect people.

Anthony Mackie is from New Orleans. He's a really good actor and old friend from his NOCCA days.

I finally saw this yesterday. I was good. I can understand why it was released to limited audiences.

Kerry Washington from "Ray" was also in the picture. LOL

Netflix-ed it. Thought it was excellent. Spike as usual hit topics that no one else wants to get near (Corporate scandal, Definition of Love (Woman/Woman v. Man/Woman), Racism (as always), etc.) and does it in an entertaining way. Definitely worth a look see IMO, though I have no idea why it would be banned in any state. What was offensive, and to whom? If anything, I was offended at the subtle jabs to the idea of a Black man not being willing to care for a bunch of kids that he's fathered out of wedlock, but even that Spike handled effectively.

Or maybe I was reading too far into it.

again...again...and again...

I loved it and to be honest I think it speaks myriads that it was banned in some states. It is quite evident that the things banned are of a "moral" minority in this country. Sad state of affairs IMO. Keep doing what you do SPIKE....a fan till the end.

I think it was bigger than that. I think the fact that he took a jab at the "Water Gate" scandal was too much for many.

What happened to the security guard (black guy) who led the agents to what was going on, which led to Water Gate? From what I read in Jet years ago, he was broke and on public assistance. What happened to ole boy when he blew the whistle on his company? He was blackballed, assests frozen, etc.
Which led him to selling his 'stuff'.

AKA2D: You're talking about Frank Wills. http://www.super70s.com/Super70s/New...rank_Wills.asp

Forgotten and Bitter Man

In 1973 - before the Watergate saga had played itself out - he left GSS due to their unwillingness to provide paid vacations. He had trouble finding full-time employment after that and told the Washington Post: "I don't know if they are being told not to hire me or if they are just afraid to hire me." By the late 1970s, he was living with his ailing mother.

Frank Wills hit a low in 1983 when he was sentenced to a year in prison for shoplifting a pair of sneakers.

Wills was largely forgotten at the time of the 25th anniversary of the break-in in 1997. Nevertheless, a number of interviews at the time revealed an embittered man. In a Boston Globe interview, he said: "I put my life on the line. If it wasn't for me, Woodward and Bernstein would not have known anything about Watergate. This wasn't finding a dollar under a couch somewhere."

"He's the only one in Watergate who did his job perfectly," said Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward to The Post. "...Calling the police was one of the most important phone calls in American history, and it was so simple and so basic."

Where Are They Now?

Frank Wills died penniless on September 27, 2000 at age 52 in a hospital in Augusta, Georgia. He had been diagnosed with a brain tumor. A very sad end for a man who helped protect the integrity of a system he later become so disillusioned with.

I watched it this weekend... I didn't like how the main character gave a speech at the end, during the hearing. It seemed too rehearsed. I liked Kerry Washington's performance. I'd give the movie a B-. There were too many messages. I liked the messages(Black rappers and their fascination with the mafia, corporate crime, high price of medicine, etc) but i didn't quite get how they were woven together.
