Yasmin, yay!
I know there's already a bc thread. But, I had to announce to the world that after trying every bc pill out there in the past 10 years I have FINALLY FOUND ONE THAT I CAN TAKE WITHOUT IT MAKING ME VIOLENTLY ILL.
This is huge.
Yasmin is my new love
I am keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't make me sick over the next few days. It's only my second day on it.
Anyone else on yasmin?

I've been on Yasmin for about 3 years and LOVE it! It doesn't make you gain weight because it has a diaretic or something that makes you let out all the water in your body. And it seriously does because I've noticed I've had to use the ladies room a lot more often. I told my doctor that I needed something different than what I was on a while back because I gained 30lbs on that. Yasmin is awesome!
But the mood swings are horrendous. I notice that every month I choose a different person to take it out on and I give them so much crap that even a plumber couldn't handle.

I heard these were good! Desogen works well for me. Ortho Novum and Ortho Tricyclen gave me migraines and mood swings from hell!

Oooooh, Yasmin. I took it for about 6 months but couldn't stand the mood swings and the fact that it made the sides of my boobs so sore that I could not wear a bra. I have also read that it has been linked to a higher incidence of heart trouble...it did cause me to experience a tightness in my chest and higher anxiety levels (at first I thought it was just stress, but those symptoms miraculously disappeared once I switched pills). Moral of the story is that everybody reacts differently to different types of pills, and I'm glad you found one that works for you even though it wasn't my cup of tea. Personally, I think Estrostep FE is pretty nifty...no sore boobs, shorter & lighter periods, no mood swings (so far, anyway, after almost a year)...it's nice.

My doctor wanted to put me on Yasmin. I told her not to because my housemate's boobs grew a lot when she was on that, and mine are already big enough as it is.

Doesn't it seriously suck that birth control is in such a sorry state women take pills that make them have mood swings and feel like shit? I was on Desogen about a year ago and I stopped taking it because I swear I wanted to kill myself.
There has to be something better, for real. I've heard good things about Yasmin and Alesse but I'm not ever taking the pill again.

I can just people to never take Seasonale ever. I was on it for about 3 months and had to come off it cuz I was having so much "breakthrough bleeding" that health services had to send me to the hospital and give me an anemia test. Also I had crazy mood swings like you would not believe.

You just made my night! LMAO over here!!
I'm on the nuva ring and I love it! No worrying to have to take a pill every day is great. I'm a lil moodier then I was before, but that could also be caused by stress.

My first BC pill was Ortho and it was not a pretty site! I cried after leaving a grocery store because the cashier couldn't get my order right! I then changed to Desogen and the mood swings were calmed a lot. However, about a month ago I quit taking the pill altogether and I was a complete wreck for about two days...crying at work over the very slightest thing and same thing at home! I think when I do decide to do the pill again, Yasmin will be on the top of my list (if there isn't something else amazing out on the market by that time!)

I am in LOVE with this pill.
I don't have any other options as far as the pill goes. Literally every other low-dose pill makes me feel like I am pregnant with horrible morning sickness all over again.
I have not had any mood swings. I am actually in ten times a better mood than before I started them. I hope they don't make your boobs bigger. Mine are already DDs!
They do make me a *tad* sick at my stomach. But, it's actually a good thing in my case. It makes my appetite decrease.
So far, I want to kiss the people who came up with this formulation.

I'm going to be starting Yasmin in the next couple of days. If that doesn't have a good effect on me, then I'm definetely going to be asking to get the shot. My dr. was strongly advocating for just doing the shot, I just didn't feel right with the idea at the time. But if I end up becoming a mood-swinging b*tchy person from Yasmin, I think I'll just say screw and give that a try.

Does anyone do the whole skip your period thing? I skipped mine this month because of formal. I've done it a few other times for vacations and stuff (one of the PERKS of the pill!), but I get annoying cramps during the week I'm supposed to be on my period. Anyone have any suggestions?

I've been on ortho tri-cyclen for 4 years now and it's never made me sick. Can some of you ladies tell me what was happening to you that made you sick? Just curious because I've never had anything bad happen with OTC.

AstroAPhi:
Some women are more sensitive to estrogen than others. For instance with me, I have PCOS. My estrogen is VERY low. My body cannot handle a very high dose. It feels like the same morning sickness with pregnancy. I vomit uncontrollably until the dose wears off.
For me, it feels like the worst case of food poisoning EVER.
Some women have HORRIBLE morning sickness when pregnant. Others are never even faced with nausea. It is all in how your body chemistry handles estrogen.

But yeah OTC worked well for me for awhile and then I got so sick from it I felt the same way Tippiechick did. OTC Lo also worked but then did the same thing, birth control can just do that randomly sometimes, work great for awhile but change even after many months on it.
I'd really like to use something other than Yasmin but I don't even know what else to try, I don't want to get the shot and I hate the nausea and constant vomiting but honestly the depression and moodiness I get from Yasmin is so bad I might be willing to trade the side effects. And it just sucks b/c it's so blatantly obvious that it's the pill that's doing it, I feel wonderful and happy all month long but then like 3 or 4 days out of the month I lay in my bed at night and just cry b/c I feel like the biggest loser and I obsess over everything I do wrong, it's terrible! Plus I am so irritable, I pick fights with everyone.
I guess when I go home this weekend I'll have to ask mom what to do...

I get the same way. Every month I lose a different friend because of my bitchiness. Docs should prescribe an upper when they prescribe Yasmin. Still, I wouldn't change it. I love that I never gained weight on this.
