A first: LXA charters at HBC NC A&T

New Lambda Chi Alpha Chapter at North Carolina A & T: (Greensboro, NC)

After four hard-fought years, the colony at NC A&T chartered as Pi-Iota Zeta in April 2005. The 22-man group is strong on campus, and they have a 3.13 GPA. Every member is involved outside of the chapter.

This campus is a historically black college (HBC), with an 81% African-American student population. The campus boasts many great chapters of black Greek- letter organizations. By opening a chapter on the campus, Lambda Chi Alpha became the first "traditional" fraternity to charter at a HBC campus.

hoosier, thank you for posting this and thank you all for the nice comments.

I had the pleasure of sitting on a Colony Review Commitee at General Assembly and fighting to keep this colony going along with lifesaver as we sat shoulder to shoulder.

The 3 young men and Advisor who were there and I spent as much time as I could with them as they were outstanding. I kept in touch since then and was so gratified that the right decision was made as proven by Chartering less than a year since then.

Chris Lo is a G C Member and a special Brother. By saying that, He and another young man , neither being a member paid thier own way to G A in Indianapolis. That is dedication!

Hip Hip Hooray for My Brothers at NC A & T!

I LOVE CHRIS LO! He is one of the most awesome Lambda Chis I know. He and I have a special bond because we've both been New Member Eds and then Recruitment (Kappa and Delta lol).

I know several guys from this chapter, and I can't tell you how happy everyone is to see them succeed.

How do they compare size-wize?

Is 22 men a competitive number on that campus?

Although I do not attend this school, I'm going to go with no, 22 is not considered competitive. From what I know, the NPHC fraternities on that campus typically have lines of 10-25 men. However, I don't think, with the atmosphere at this HBCU, that being competitive with the NPHC orgs is really a marker of success.

I too am not sure on Chapter size, but, in working with these Young Men and Advisor, they reported to Me that the Problem was not with other Greek Organizations, but with the Adm.

While they were Held back by the Greek Advisor and others, the GLOs there were working with them in a spirit of GreekDom!

Congratulations to The New Brothers of LXA and Thier Fellow Greeks for working with Them!

This is a Break through for a project tha LXA did and proved it can be done.

Remember, there have been non Whites who have Joined GLOs of "Traditional" White GLOs, and Vice Versa, this was a totally New thing to do. It worked.

Isnt that what We profess?

I would agree with this. From the NPHC groups that I have known and worked with, the size of the chapter doesn't matter. What does matter is that you are about the work of your organization. As long as Lambda Chi is OK with them having 22 members, that's all that counts.

Congrats to the new chapter!

I'd LOVE to see an NPC open on a HBCU as well, but I guess they will do so only if a need arises and opportunity presents itself....or is there already one I don' t know about?

AWESOME! I've been waiting for this day - you'd think I was a Lambda Chi with how much I've been following this story!

Congratulations to Lambda Chi Alpha! I hope more NIC/NPC greeks take a lesson from this.
