Canada and Terrorism

Well CSIS (Canadian Security Intelligence Service) just released it's first major public report on the spread or growth of terrorist activeties in Canada since the War on Terror began...

Some interesting tidbits include:
- A jab at the biased and/or flat wrong reporting of terror connections to Canada. Specifically FOXNews is mentioned for it's continued reporting of Canadian connections or origins for the 9/11.
- a criticism of the US media outlets for "The perception that the West is attacking Islam on multiple fronts continues to anger the Muslim world and contributes to support for radical views."
- a criticism of racial/ethnic profiling by US border and security officials, profiling that alienates and infurates innocents and moderates; again providing the perception that the West is attacking Islam/Arabs.
- the desire by terror networks to recruit Canadians; for their knowledge of Western culture, high levels of education, and ease at moving about the world.
- the growing trend for decentralization of recruitment and training by terror networks; using such tools as the internet to recruit and share ideas.
- the growing trend for "homegrown" terror training: switching from overseas training bases in Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, or Albania to domestic sites; so much so that CSIS and its US counterparts have been monitoring things like paintball games/training (and participating in paintball in at least one US terror conviction).
- danger now posed by the shattered terror-networks; were now tight groups of friends or like

The Toronto Star (you have to sign-in) has a brief article on the report:
