Happy VE-Day people!
May 8th the day Germany unconditionally surrendered (a surrender ceremony at which was a member of my chapter

)
I would have posted yesterday - but I was a little fagged out from the parade and celebrations... one place here had a VE-Day celebration right out of 60 years ago; big band and all.

There has been quite a lot of coverage and events taking place up here - basically realizing that it may be the time we can thank many of the veterans in such a big way.

However I think the Dutch have taken the prize for biggest celebration - celebrating their liberation and the end of war.

Going all-out to honour the Canadians that liberated them... comping resturant bills; school kids visiting cemetaries and placing Canadian flags and flowers at each plot; Dutch TV broadcasting children reciting the name of every solider the fell; entire towns decked out in flowers and flags; thousands of people young and old greeting the vets...
Whereas on a more somber note - today, May 9th, is Victory Day; the day that Russia (and formerly the USSR) marked the end of the "Great Patriotic War" and honoured the 27 MILLION soldiers and civilians that died.
