Decorating your dorm/apartment with certain things is tacky!

These things include:

*empty beer cans and bottles of liquor on your window seal
*christmas lights in April
*blow up dolls
*blow up furniture, that is so late 90s!
*really messed up furniture with a thousand of stains and rips
*Pages ripped from porno magazines taped on the wall

My next door neighbor always razzes us b/c we have curtains instead of vertical blinds like he has. "They look neater" he says. Yeah, maybe to you, stuck-in-the-80s-man.

the only time it is OK to have them is if the landlord had them installed before you rented the place.

GOD I HATE THOSE!!!

We had some in our first house in Omaha, which was like middle to late 80's and MAN those things were horrible. They would always break and stuff and I'd get into trouble even though I never touched them. They just suck and I hope the person who invented them feels remorse for ever coming up with those things.

Horizontal blinds in rented apts never work properly. I have them in my bedroom now and they don't stay up or you pull the cord and only one side goes up and stays.

Tacky as they may be... I think they are just a hassle. But I don't have anywhere to store them if I remove them.

I put curtains over them.

I usually find this in the "comes fully furnished" apartment complexes, but the brown furniture from the early 70s played off as "vintage" has got to go.

ETA: I got confused. But my vertical blinds have similar problems and are just as bad. My parents have them at home and our cat likes to fight with the beads that hook them all together... they eventually just all broke.

Yes! We have them too, and they never close or open right!

Uh...vertical blinds are perpendicular to the floor....as in straight up and down....

Horizontal blinds aka venetian blinds go up and down.

I actually LIKE THEM....I have pleated horizontal cordless blinds in all my windows under the curtains. They are great at blocking the sun . Cordless means I move it up and down and it stays where I want it .

Personally I think the "graduate house brick and board" look (that my husband ADORES) is tacky....you should see his office.

Duh... I'm a dork. But still... both sets of blinds are broken in my apartment. For the vertical blinds, you pull the cord and one or two don't twist properly, or one gets stuck or something... the horizontal blinds are as I mentioned above. Sorry.

Vertical blinds make me CRAZY! They actually have some on these big windows at my school and they're falling apart. Take them DOWN people!

As for venetian blinds...I adore wooden ones. I also really like Vienna blinds and those Honeycomb thingies. I'll go find some pics.

ETA:

Hey! I found a pic of "Cordless Blinds"

"Vienna Sheers" (they have connecting fabric to filter light)

"Honeycomb Shades"

We have a cellular shade on our front window, and it's dope as hell because you can open it from the top, so you get light but people can't see into the house.

What IS it with men, that they think that look is so scholarly, or what?! I was discussing shelving for my little home office with mr. honeychile, and he thought the old bricks & boards were the way to go, too! So far, it's been the one decorating "problem" I've had with him, though, so I shouldn't make such a fuss, I guess.

It's because our dads made them for us (with our help) when we were kids.

Only partly joking.
