Two separate car accidents within 20 minutes of eachother resulted in the deaths of two Florida State University students in Tallahassee early Friday.
At approximately 2 a.m., Michael E. Schwartz, 20, was traveling eastbound on St. Augustine Road when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree near the intersection of St. Augustine and Collier Road. Schwartz was pronounced dead at the scene, while passenger Hadas Majmon was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and, as of press time, was listed in serious condition.
The Traffic Homicide Unit of the Tallahassee Police Department responded to the crash and stated that a high rate of speed may have contributed.
At around 2:20 a.m., FSU student Blair Shea was traveling northbound on High Road when a pedestrian came staggering out of the First Christian Church parking lot and into oncoming traffic. According to the Tallahassee Police Department, a witness had seen the pedestrian, identified as 20-year-old Shane Donner, stumble down a small hill and then run into the street. Shea struck Donner as he ran into the roadway.
Shea administered CPR to Donnor until paramedics arrived. Donnor was later pronounced dead at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
All four people involved were FSU students. Schwartz was a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity, Donnor was a member of Phi Psi fraternity, and Shea was a member of Sigma Chi and the Vice President of the Interfraternity Council.
A memorial service was held for Schwartz Friday, April 1 at the Hillel at FSU, while Donnor's memorial is planned for Wednesday.
No one from the Greek Life office was immediately available for comment.
