Everyone is invited to a party to help raise money for a local foundation.

The Delta Phi Epsilon sorority is hosting its first "65 Roses" Gala and Silent Auction from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, in the Morris University Center's Conference Center.

Tickets are $12 for students and $15 for faculty, staff and the public.

The semiformal gala will include dinner and dancing.

Among the items in the silent auction are autographed St. Louis Cardinals memorabilia, gift certificates to local restaurants and gift baskets from stores such as Bath and Body Works. All proceeds from ticket sales and the silent auction will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

"We hope the 65 Roses Gala will raise between $1,000 and $1,500 for the local chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation," Delta Phi Epsilon Programming Vice President Ashley Benedict said.

The "65 Roses" campaign is very important to people who suffer from cystic fibrosis and their family and friends.

According to the foundation's Web site, www.cff.org, the slogan "65 Roses" began in 1965 when Mary G. Weiss became a volunteer for the foundation after finding out her three boys all had cystic fibrosis. She spent her days on the phone seeking financial support from businesses and community members to help fund cystic fibrosis research. Her 4-year-old son, Richard, would listen to her make the calls. One day, he walked up to his mom.

"I know what you are working for," Richard said. "You're working for 65
roses."

Since then, the "65 Roses" slogan has been adopted by the foundation.

Approximately 30,000 Americans have cystic fibrosis, which causes the body to produce abnormally thick mucus that can clog the lungs and lead to life-threatening lung infections.

According to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's National Patient Registry, the average person with cystic fibrosis dies at the age of 33.

Awesome

Ladies,
Thanks for your support. The 65 Roses Banquest went over extremely well. Everyone there had a wonderful time and we made almost 2000 dollars for the cystic fibrosis banquet. There were tons of people there, the music was great, the food was great, and we had an awesome time bonding as sisters. I'll try to send a picture soon!
