Pledges

Wussup frat. I know this is somewhat of an open ended question, but can anybody give me some ideas about initially making new pledges who know very little of Alpha Phi Omega better understand how prominent an organization they're about to become a part of?

This is something that ideally should be covered during a chapter's "Info Night" and in discussions during Rush. You always need to explain what APO is and what its all about. Covering stuff like its basic history and groups, and emphasising the many prominent alumni is important. (a list of such are now included in the pledge manual). Also, emphasising the diversity of other alumni, so they understand that there are alumni in various areas. (doctors, lawyers, company officials, professors, etc).

Also pledges should be exposed to other chapters. This is something that a LOT of chapters fail to do. That is one of the National Pledge Standards

9. Inter-Chapter relationships. An appropriate period of
pledging includes an opportunity for all Pledges to visit
one neighboring Alpha Phi Omega Chapter.
Rationale: One of the most difficult concepts for new
Members to grasp is the scope of our National
Fraternity. The wide acceptance of Alpha Phi Omega, its
principles, and the good works of its Members span
hundreds of campuses. Pledges should have the
opportunity, firsthand, to see it functioning on
campuses other than their own.

Quite true. Chapters who are close enough should try to do join events. Also, get pledges to attend Conferences!
