"Goat" author now called "best selling"

(I wouldn't call it best selling if it's not in the Top 100 at Amazon)

ELLA presents bestselling author
By Bethany Everett
Published: Tuesday, March 15, 2005

Bestselling author Brad Land has been abducted, beaten and hazed and recently visited SIUE to discuss his experiences and promote his new book, "Goat."
The English Language and Literature Association presented Land as the seventh in its speaker series.
The ELLA presentation took place in the Meridian Ballroom drawing approximately 80 people.
Land's memoir, "Goat," describes his ordeals and the effects the encounters had on his life. "Goat" also discusses Land's experience as a fraternity pledge.
Though the book is not centered on fraternity hazing, it does expose some of the disturbing practices that Land went through. Various SIUE fraternities and sororities were in attendance to hear Land.
The night began with a brief history of ELLA and its speaker series by ELLA President Janella Moy. This was followed by an introduction of Land by SIUE English professor Eileen Joy.
Land discussed "Goat", read several excerpts, then opened the floor for questions.
When asked why he chose to write his memoir, Land said that "it was a story worth telling." He wrote "Goat" as a graduate student at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where he earned his master's degree of fine arts degree.
Several fraternity members asked Land questions about the hazing he experienced. Land said that although his experience was bad, he is not opposed to all fraternities.
Land advised future writers to "read everything" and to remember that writing is work.
"Writing is just like anything else, it takes practice," Land said.
Land has been touring the country making appearances at bookstores and college campuses since October. He is currently working on a novel, which he hopes to have published by early next year.
Land will be appearing at 7 p.m. Monday at Left Bank Books in St. Louis.
