Quick action on hazers

(Altho this hazing doesn't involve a GLO, it may give us a clue to the future. Two high school boys are hazed, they go straight to the principal, and the hazers are kicked out. Perhaps if our chapter advisor let the pledges know that hazing isn't tolerated, and that he is on their side, they would tell the advisor about hazing, and the chapter advisor could help stop it.)

Donna athletes arrested for alleged hazing

DONNA, (TX) February 24, 2005 — Two Donna High School student athletes accused of sexually assaulting freshman football players were arrested Wednesday.

Jacob Leal, 17, and Reynaldo Magallanes, 18, were each charged with one count of assault and one count of sexual assault. Two more students could be arrested today, according to Donna school Superintendent Joe D. Gonzalez.

Gonzalez said the school district acted quickly on information acquired late Friday night to protect students.

“About 10 or 11 freshman students were moved up to work out with the varsity team during the off-season,” Gonzalez said. “At least two of them have come forward and told us what happened. It was considered some type of initiation.

“The whole situation is still under investigation by school district police and Donna police,” Gonzalez said. “We could see more arrests and more victims because interviews are ongoing and more names are being given. Then those additional students have to be interviewed as well.”

Gonzalez said Leal and Magallanes were taken into custody in the principal’s office and both suspended from Donna High School until a hearing can be held with their parents.

Their fate remains unknown Wednesday night.

“The initial recommendation of what to do with them comes from the principal,” Gonzalez said. “We will try to have those hearings on Thursday.”

Donna police reports show that Leal and Magallanes were among a group of senior students who allegedly took freshman players into the locker room showers, where the freshmen suffered hazing involving sexual assault.

The seniors also stand accused of slapping or striking the genitalia of the freshmen, reports show.

HM, wonder if this would apply to The Moroon Coach of a Tex. HS who hazed his Athletes with a water hose? Oh, filmed for the News Media!

Wonder if He had regressed memories of being in a Fraternity and being Hazed?

experiences like this ar why it's hard for our college students to see hazing as a real problem. it happened in high school and often times, coaches know about it and even endorse it.

When i was a chapter advisor (just a few months ago), exec would often ask if they do something "small" b/c the nm's expected "something" to happen. absolutely not! the chain has to break somewhere, and that somewhere was my chapter!

gotta wonder about people these days and why they let this kind of thing happen!
