Good News From Loyola Marymount
(Posted: 18-Feb-05)
After an 18-day recruitment period during Beta Theta Pi's colonization at Loyola Marymount, the Fraternity is proud to announce that 68 founding fathers were inducted during the pledge ceremony on February 17. The class includes 11 freshmen, 34 sophomores, 16 juniors and seven seniors. Sixty-eight bids were extended with 68 bids accepted!

"More than 45 were denied the opportunity to join because of sheer size concerns," reported Beta Theta Pi Director of Expansion and Recruitment David Rae. "Men are already waiting to join our pledge class next September."

Unofficial, the pledge class is No.1 in academics with a 3.31 cumulative GPA. The all-fraternity GPA is 3.08. The all-men’s GPA is 3.06.

Recruitment highlights include:

President of the Student Body (ASLMU)
Black Student Union (BSU) President
Residence Hall Association President
Sursum Corda President (Co-ed service organization)
M.A.G.I.S. President (Men Acting Genuinely In Service)
Co-Founder of Safe Ride Program
5 Beta Legacies
National Merit Scholars
6 ASLMU Senators
Varsity Athletes
17 Eagle Scouts
9 States represented

"Many thanks must go to the recruitment team of Education Consultants Todd Mattox, Nebraska ’02, and Chad Salas, Eastern Washington ’02. JB Scherpelz, Miami ’05, future expansion director, was also a huge contributor," praised Rae. "Brother Mattox will work with our 11-person advisory team mentoring the colony throughout the education process."

Special thanks to Greek Advisor Jayme Little as well as Chapter Counselor Ted Haile, Georgia Tech ’75, as he leads the all-star cast of 12 advisors. Former General Treasurer and District Chief Bruce Lloyd, Brown ’69, and former staff members Lance Koenig, Nebraska ’98, and Vince Mikolay, Bethany ’00, are providing support as well.

Initiation date is scheduled for Saturday, April 16th.
