Adopted children...

I was just wondering if anyone else here has adopted children. We adopted our third child, a daughter, from China when she was nine months old. She's now nine, and in the third grade. Anyone else???

Sorry to crash but, you probably need to talk to Carnation on here. She has a million kids over half of them adopted. (I think she has around 12 or 13).

Mad props to you for giving a child a home

/end crash
hope there is no damage to your bumper!

More props!!

Definitely talk to Carnation - I think at least five of her children are adopted!

Although I have to say this: I knew a guy in school who was adopted with his sister from Korea. As sometimes happens, right after the adoption, his new parents became pregnant, and had a blonde-haired, blue-eyed little girl. She was five before she realized that she wasn't "odd"!!

Funny, same thing with Mr. 1228. He was adopted. Mother in law and DH thought they couldn't have kids. His birth mom was 16 when he was born

Everyone in his family was brunette with brown eyes...eyebrows were raised. where did they get that blonde hair (platinum) blue eyed baby from?

4 years later, mother in law gets PG and has a boy. He was the odd one in that family

Jill, never feel that you're crashing - you're always welcome here!

The pregnancy after adoption phenomena seems to be somewhat common - probably because the parents relax and focus on their love as opposed to making a baby.

Yes, I've heard that happens a lot, too. It did happen to a friend of mine, who also adopted from China, even though it was about four years later. Sadly, she lost that child, as she had several others. But they are thinking about adopting another Chinese girl, which would be wonderful for me, 'cause I've had my last one, but I loooooove to hold babies! Our third child is almost like a single child-our two birth children are a good bit older-boy is in college, and daughter is leaving for college in the fall. The good news is------I'll only have to cook for THREEEEEEE!! Actually, my husband is on call a lot, so make that---dinner on the go for two!! And, Miss Jill, thanks for coming over!

My husband's oldest sister is adopted. His parents adopted her and then less than a year later they got pregnant with him. His parents had 4 more children after that. I think at least one of his cousins is adopted as well. I know several friends that are either adopted or have adopted children.

I think that if I wasn't able to conceive I would adopt. However, we are not planning any right now.

My brother is adopted from Korea. He came to our family @ 6 months and is 16 now.
The plan my hubby and I hatched is to have a baby and then adopt one- we will be adopting whatever sex we don't have. So if we have a boy- we'll get a girl from China, and if we have a girl we'll get a boy from Korea. If the process of Trying to Conceive it ends up taking a very long time. I'd like to adopt two kiddos.

At 42 (?) my God-sister and her husband adopted a little girl from Vietnam. The adoption took several months. While there she found out that she was pregnant! She now has two biological children and one adopted child!

That's wonderful, Silver!!

A very close sister from my chapter & her husband adopted their daughter from Romania. They had filled out all the forms for two sisters, one 8 months old, and the other 18 months old. When they got to Romania, they found out that it was the old "bait and switch" and they adopted their daughter, who was 3½ years old at the time. She had never been out of her crib, and had only ever eaten cold milk or orange juice. But she could not have found a better family - they love her something fierce!!

I was amazed at the feelings I still have about adopting-the fact that you are willingly and knowingly intervening in another person's life. It is something that is impossible to explain. Our daughter, in second grade, began to have sight problems, and we realized she was very nearsighted and needed glasses. This year, in third grade, I noticed her two front teeth were beginning to buck out-so we immediatly started orthodontic procedures, and she now has braces, and has had two baby teeth removed. (Our orthodontist said that it is a common problem in Asians that their lower jaw often outgrows their top jaw and can cause problems.) That said, she has been asked to model locally-so you can imagine how gorgeous she is!) Also, at the beginning of this year, we quickly saw problems in focusing on school work and she is now on a very small amount of medication for it. She went from B and C work to all A's. Her pediatrician said that if a child truly needs medication, you will quickly see a difference, and we did. I can't imagine what her life would be like just within these three parameters, obviously not counting all the love and wonderful environment she has here. There is NOTHING like deliberately changing a life!! We are in awe and blessed, and for those of you who were saying you are considering it in the future, you will realize that it may very well be one of your greatest life accomplishments!
