National Wear Red Day
Fellow Greeks,
Tomorrow, February 4th, is National Wear RED Day.
This is "a day when Americans nationwide will take women's health to heart by wearing red to show their support fo women's heart disease awareness. National Wear Red Day supports The Heart Truth, a national awareness campaign for women about heart disease sponsered by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. The campaign introduced the Red Dress as the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness in February 2003. National Wear Red Day promotes the Red Dress symbol and the message that it carries: "Heart Disease Doesn't Care What You Wear-It's the #1 Killer of Women." For ideas and tolls (including the Red Dress Pin) to help you participate in National Wear Red Day, visit www.hearttruth.gov"

First I've heard of this but will try to remember. My mom died some years ago of a heart attack.

I'll be wearing red!
My mother's first heart attack just had its first anniversary - 31 January 2004. She had a second one, a four-way bypass, lung, and eye surgery, all from complications from the original heart attack.
She never had any chest pains!!!!
Call me a holy roller, but I praise the Lord that she is still with us today!
Her symptoms included lack of breath, weakness, fatigue, sleeplessness, and an upset stomach. I went to her house to help her hang some draperies, and she was listless & her face was grey. Each doctor that I've talked to since has told me that she had the "traditional female heart attack" - which, because there are no chest pains involved, is the main reason why more women are likely to die from a heart attack than men.
If you can't wear red, make a pin of a red dress! Let's cut those odds in our lifetime!
DeltAlum, please accept my sympathy. I know that some pain never fully goes away. I'll be thinking of your mother tomorrow, too.

As some of you may know the Alpha Phi Foundation supports research on women's cardiac care. We have our own red dress pin, and red bracelets. Here is info on our bracelets...
In support of women and heart disease, Alpha Phi announces the “TAKE HEART” wristband. These red wristbands are a symbol of women’s heart disease; share them with your friends, family, coworkers, and faculty members.

I can't wear red at work--dark pants and white shirt, but I am wearing this wristband and my Alpha Phi Red Dress Pin

As a former paramedic, let me include jaw pain in this list. On more than one occasion this was the ONLY symptom women I transported in the ambulance had. That was until we looked at their heart rhythm on the EKG.
I will also be wearing as much red as possible to the hockey game tonight. I guess it helps that one of our team colors is red.
