We have lost a Giant in Kappa
Just wanted to pass this sad info on to the brothers.
My Brothers:
On December 2, 2000 at approximately 12:30[m, our brother & Diggs Award
Joseph Bruton joined the Chapter Invisible. Brother Bruton, a 1948 initiate
of the Howard University Chapter, the Xi of Kappa Alpha Psi, was well known
throughout our beloved Fraternity for his penchant for excellence, He was a
member of the Laurel Wreath Commission for over 20 years and served as its
chairman during the tenure of Grand Polemarch McBride. Brother Bruton was
also responsible for developing the legislation that controls the membership
selection process at the alumni level, and the legislation that controls the
administration of the Laurel Wreath award. He was also a past Polemarch of
the Washington (DC) Alumni Chapter and the third recipient of its highest
achievement award - the LaMont H. Lawson Award. Brother Bruton will forever
be a part of Kappa Trivia - Who were the first two brothers from the same
line to receive the Elder Watson Diggs Award? Brothers James "Biff" Carter
and Joseph Bruton of the 1948 Xi line.
A native of Orlando, FL, Brother Bruton earned a BS degree from Howard
University, and went on to earn a MS and PhD degree in Chemistry from the
prestigious Georgetown University. He is survived by his spouse, three
children [including Brother Vincent Bruton], a sister, a half brother, and a
host of relatives in the Orlando, FL area. His family is in the process of
developing funeral and burial arrangements consistent with his wishes.
