Post your 2004 NAFD Totals Here!!

Going into tomorrow, the UIW Colony has raised 21,000 lbs. THey are shooting for 40,000. I think they will do it.

A unique twist in San Antonio. All three groups in San Antonio are raising food in a coordinated effort. Each group will have its own totals and is responsible for its own efforts, but the overall effort is coordinated between the three groups. All three groups are sharing the same central operations base, where food is brought throughout the day, and where media can meet and follow groups out into the neighborhoods and where all three groups will gather to take the collected food to the SA Food Bank where it will all be weighed and the donation ceremony will take place (with media). I removed my name and phone number.. dont know the loons out there on the net)

Heres the press release:

LOCAL CHAPTERS OF THE LAMBDA CHI ALPHA FRATERNITY COLLECT FOOD FOR THE SAN ANTONIO FOOD BANK
Largest Collegiate Single-Day Philanthropic Event in US

SAN ANTONIO (November 6, 2004) – The three San Antonio chapters of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity are joining forces to help feed the hungry in the San Antonio community by participating in the 11th annual North American Food Drive (NAFD).

Students from St. Mary’s University, University of Texas at San Antonio, and University of the Incarnate Word will collect non-perishable food items from local neighborhoods and their university communities on Saturday, November 6, 2004 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Food items will be delivered throughout the day to the central collection point in the west wing of the University Center, on the UTSA campus. At 7:00 p.m. collected items will be delivered to the San Antonio Food Bank, located at 4311 Director Drive, where they will be weighed and a total donation amount will be announced at 7:30 p.m.

All of Lambda Chi Alpha’s chapters and colonies are expected to participate in the NAFD to help the fraternity achieve its goal of TWO MILLION pounds of non-perishable food items. Locally, the three San Antonio chapters have established a goal of collecting 100,000 pounds of food.

“This gives us a chance to give back to the community and show that we’re not your typical fraternity,” UTSA chapter president Ross Langham said. “We’re a values based organization focused on developing leadership in our members. This is a great way to do that,” he added. Gideon Jones, chair of the Incarnate Word chapter effort said, “We’ve been working on the details of the food drive for months. It has been hard work, but rewarding. We get to make a difference and help our neighbors.”

The North American Food Drive began in 1993 as international philanthropy project that has raised more than 18.4 million pounds of food for the needy across North America. This annual event has become the largest single-day philanthropic project sponsored by a collegiate organization.

Lambda Chi Alpha is the third largest men’s fraternity in the world with more than 200 chapters and colonies in the United States and Canada and 250,000 members. Celebrating its’ 95th anniversary, Lambda Chi Alpha is a leader in the fraternity world with an innovative undergraduate leadership training program, alumni mentoring program, and constant focus on individual success.

OK, I'll start.

Phi Upsilon Zeta at UT-San Antonio raised 105,000 lbs
Sigma Beta Zeta at St. Marys Univerity raised 10,000 lbs (their main food drive event, an all day on-campus carnival is Friday, November 12, where they expect to raise an additional 40,000 lbs)
Colony 285 at Universty of the Incarnate Word raised 30,000 lbs.

For a combined San Antonio effort of 145,000 lbs. If the Fraternity reaches its goal of 2 million pounds, the three groups from San Antonio will have raised 7% of all food collected in the entire NAFD.

Needless to say I am extreemly proud of the efforts of all three Lambda Chi groups in San Antonio.

The NBC affilliate, WOAI-TV was there and ran a small voice-over piece on the 10pm newscast. I'll be interested to see if they repackage the story and run it on sunday. The SA Express-news said they woudl run a story with totals on Monday. Its the first time we have had any media coverage on the NAFD in San Antonio.

Heres the photos:

LX Zeta, While not what the Brothers wanted, it looks like @ 3.5-4 Thousend lb. Not bad for so few guys.

Something to think about:

1. Enlist a Soroity to help. Did for the first time in History of Zeta. Tri-Sigma Loved doing it and are up for it a gain!

2. Weather was crappola!

3. The Div II Top Two Teams. My Gorillas, played at Arrowhead, We won, had Alums bring Food and Donate money= @ 600 lb.

So, many ways to do it, just need to figure the best way!

NAFD, The Largest Food Drive in the World!

lifesaver, Congratulations to the Greater San Antonia Brothers of UT. SA, St. Marys, and Last but not Least UIW!

New Theta

Hi guys. I just registered for this forum and a few days ago I was elected Theta for the Florida Chapter (Epsilon Mu).

Last year we rose only a few thousand pounds and we have the potential to do so much more. I'd like to learn from you guys how I could drastically increase my chapters total.

Cool

High and a big welcome to you!

Just ask EM1843, sure He can help!

We did something different this year, we joined with Trig Sigma for a Holloween gathering house to house. The Ladies had a ball and are looking foward to next year.

Also did a thing with Local Wally-World (Wall-Mart) and grocery stores.

Had a Football Game with arch Rivals at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City and asked , Alums to bring food stuffs or Money. $1.00 = 8 lbs. Never really figured that ratio out though?

Also, asking that anytime an Alum comes back to drop some canned goods off so can collect over a long period of time instead of a get it crammed into a few days!

Hope this might help for the coming Food Drive!

The brothers at Theta-Zeta collected and raised a little over 20,000 lbs. A big increase from the 2500 lbs collected in 2003.
A good High Theta can work wonders.
