Desperate Housewives' star will reportedly confirm she's gay
From news reports
Published on: 02/08/05
Desperate Housewives star Marcia Cross is set to reveal she is a real-life lesbian, according to British press reports.
Sky.com reported that Cross, who plays Bree Van De Kamp in the hit show, will pose on the cover of a gay magazine, The Advocate, to confirm her sexuality.
Cross, 43, is believed to be in a long-term relationship with an actress from another top show, the Website reported.
The Sun tabloid also reported the news, quoting a "show insider" as saying: "Everyone on the show is aware of Marcia's leanings, as is the rest of Hollywood. She hasn't made a secret of it."

what she said on Oprah
from oprah.com
Marcia Cross is best known for her starring role on Melrose Place. Marcia took some time off from acting to get her Masters in Psychology and now she's back as a desperate housewife. Her character Bree is part Stepford, part Leave it to Beaver, but her obsession with being the perfect housewife is tearing her family and marriage apart.
Marcia says she is nothing like her character. "Oh, honey, there's nothing about me that's perfect. Trust me. … When your producer called, I was late to work, I didn't know who was shooting…no, there's nothing perfect."
Although Marcia says trying to be perfect is "frighteningly tiring," Bree does have something she envies. "My joke is that I'm desperate to be a housewife," says Marcia. "I'm missing the husband and the kids and the nice house."

Is it Marcia?
Prepare for the tsunami of press coverage. Marcia Cross, the sexy yet anal retentive Bree Van De Kamp, is apparently preparing to come out — in real life, according to an item on the British news site Sky.com.
Marcia Cross of the hit show ‘Desperate Housewives’ may come out as gay, according to recent media reports.
Speculation has been running rampant in recent days that a character on ABC’s hit show “Desperate Housewives” and one of the show’s actors in real life will come out as gay. Sky.com reported earlier today that it will be Cross on an upcoming cover of the Advocate, and that her character’s onscreen son, played by Shawn Pyfrom, will come out on the show.
Get ready for the obligatory appearance on “Oprah.” She loves the show almost as much as gay men (and makes an appearance on an upcoming episode), and is sure to make room for this new twist. The national media will surely tune in; they can’t miss a sensational coming out story when it comes to women in Hollywood. (Note Cynthia Nixon, Rosie O-Donnell and Ellen DeGeneres.)
And this one is sexier than most. Sky.com says Cross, 43, is involved with a woman from another top TV show.
The coming out on the show isn’t supposed to take place until May. No word on when Cross, or whoever it turns out to be, will make the same move in real life. But with media attention now turning to the next celebrity coming out, it might happen sooner than that.
Let the media feeding frenzy begin

Lori Loughlin is married to Mossimo. I heard it was someone from Everwood or something like that.

look at all these rumors, surrounding me everyday...
quote from AfterEllen.com
Then speculation turned to who Cross was in a relationship with, and further hints by the ABC Spy that the woman was a brunette and a lead on a WB series prompted speculation of women Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls), Lori Loughlin and Merrin Dungey (Summerland), and even 23-year-old Jessica Pare (Jack and Bobby)--with just as many posters arguing the WB clue was a red herring and it was really Sex and the City's Kristin Davis.
Again I may be a cynic, but this is all for publicity.
See - http://www.afterellen.com/People/200...rciacross.html - for a great anatomy of how an internet rumor gets started then gets reported as news --- very interesting.

I'm watching the "View" right now and she's co-hosting. They addressed this very issue...she emphatically denies her being a lesbian and is chalking it up to "being 42 and unmarried."
She is maintaining (at least on "the view") that she is not a lesbian.

I am soooooooooooooo envious! I love that show and would love to see it live! I got to watch it twice this week because of sick kids. It's my only perk to having sick kids.

It was fun to see in person, even though I was in the nose bleed section.
It wasn't so fun getting up at 3:30 this morning to get there on time .

on a random note, marcia cross is from the town i teach in.
i hadn't heard it was her who was rumored to be a lesbian, however, i find it completely odd that in FEB, people are talking about the fact that someone is going to be announcing her sexuality in MAY. just seems a bit like a publicity blitz to me....

I think people are confused here. We've heard rumours since November or so that a CHARACTER on Desperate Housewives will be coming out. That's probably what people are talking about.
According to spoilerfix, it isn't Tom.

actually there have been two different sets of rumors, both about a character and an actress on the show.

Note: Two of the three major TV ratings "sweeps" are basically the months of February and May. The third "big" sweep is November. There are some less weighted "books," and even the big ones are not quite as important as they used to be since there are "overnights" in most of the major markets 7/365 these days.
