What would you do if...
Sorors and Black Greeks (and I do mean SORORS & BLACK GREEKS ONLY): (for those who have a problem reading & comprehending a simple request..Kelli)
If you were walking down the street on a COLD, snowy, winter day, and you saw a homeless person (who is not greek) wearing a jacket with your org's greek letters on it, what would you do and/or how would you feel?
Just a question for you to ponder...
And I'm Out!

Man this is a good question.
Ok i would approach said person and ask if they are a member of DST. . .if they say, yes. . . THEN I am taking her home to get her help . . . which won't be a lot because of low funds but I will call chapter sorors.
IF THEY SAY NO. . . then I will run post haste to a Salvation Army or somewhere and get them a WARMER coat and still offer them as much help as I can.
This is a scenario I hope NEVER happens.

Err, back to the topic.
If I encountered a homeless non-Greek, provided it's a female, I would go to the nearest thrift store, buy different gear, and ask for my org's leters back. I'm a pretty large woman, but I'm not physical at all.

I would offer to buy them an alternative artcle of clothing and to buy them lunch in exchange for the clothing with my letters on it. If they refused, I wouldn't fight them for it, but it would make me uncomfortable...

The summer after my linesisters and I got off of line...we were feeding the homeless at a local shelter. We had on our line shirts...this homeless white man walked in with a sweatshirt that said "DST the sorority with authority" on one side AND "AKA too legit too quit" on the other side. He had on our letters...we stood there jaws dropped not knowing what to say. Some people were like "you should've snatched those letters off of his chest." My response is that we didn't have another shirt to give him...the situation, was not such, that we could drop the plates we were holding, get another shirt, and bring it back to him. He didn't mean any harm...who knows where he even got the shirt from (DST and AKA on both sides, whoa). 3 1/2 years later, I would STILL be shocked...I can't say I would've approached him b/c many of those individuals in that shelter were mentally disturbed and the supervisors of the shelter were difficult to find. If I could find one of the supervisors, I would've mentioned it to them and (hopefully) found the man another shirt. If I couldn't find a supervisor, I would've thought about my personal safety and let that man be. (Sidebar: some folks actually give 'nalia away to thriftshops and Goodwills...if you don't want non-Greeks and (possibly)homeless people ending up with this stuff AND WEARING IT...don't give it away.)

Just this weekend I saw an old black man wearing a Delta Delta Delta cap! I wondered if I should have said anything, but I decided not to since Tri-Delt isn't a black org. I figured I'd leave it up to them to pursue.
And I'm Out!

Yeah, you're right to leave that alone. I went to an HWU (historically white university), and the historically white fraternities and sororities (at my school, at least) let others wear and display their 'nalia all of the time. They just have different protocol when it comes to their paraphernalia. I think that goes without saying, since this thread was addressed to "Sorors and Black Greeks."
