Talking Chapter's first recruitment!

Hello all of you wonderful people of GC!

My chapter of Delta Delta Delta was established this past November, and we are participating in our first formal recruitment in three weeks! There are seven other sororities at Elon, and we are all national. Does anyone have any advice for a new chapter participating in formal recruitment for the first time?

We are all very excited about recruitment, especially since it's so new to us

Do you have any Recruitment Specialists coming from HQ? They always have some sort of tips to give. And regional officers can help out with theme ideas and figuring out all of the details in voting and the like.

How about your College Panhellenic? Every university does recruitment different and hopefully some can help you out in the Panhellenic Spirit.

Have fun and good luck!!

I'm sure Tri Delta will have someone there with you every step of the way

I know that I was a colony advisor to a group at Drexel during their first formal recruitment, and they were worried and scared and all that jazz. At the end, they made quota plus 2 and did a fabulous job. They were so happy to see the fruits of their hard work, and that's probably what you'll feel as well...as well as getting a whole crew of new women for your group!

Best of luck!

Several women from EO have come and hosted recruitment workshops for us. We also have a stationary field consultant that will help us out as well. We feel comfortable with the logistics of recruitment, but I was asking for advice in general, like how to get through the long days and keep up the energy.

Even though you are a part of a new chapter, remember what it is about your sisters, your chapter, your sorority that make you proud to be a member. Your feelings about your chapter will show through in what you say to PNM's. Be open and honest in your conversations, and you will meet fabulous ladies, and they will see what is wonderful about Tri-Delta! Have confidence in yourself and you sisters! Be enthusiastic and encouraging to those around you, because whether you know it or not, someboday will need it. Most of all, HAVE FUN and BE YOURSELF!!!

Stash mints/breath strips in places around the house. Talking so much gave me a dry mouth and the mint helped out with that and in addition gave fresh breath. I would grab one between parties.

I had (still have) trouble remembering names. Try to use the girls name in conversation to remember it. I could always describe what she was wearing and many times a sister could help out with names.

Remember antiperspirant. Or use baby powder. Our recruitment is very hot and in addition the extra bodies added to it. Don't use strong perfume. It can overpower.

Make sure your apperance is presentable. Have fresh nailpolish in neutral colors. Make sure your highlights are touched up in your hair. It looks nicer. Iron your clothes. Don't wear uncomfortable or revealing clothing.

Conversations. You usually end up talking about majors but keep it to a minimum. Try to find a common interest. Some ideas:
Pets
Shopping
Reading
Coffee shops
Favorite Movies/TV shows/Music
Sports
Community Service/Organizations
Work
Travel
Cooking
Family closeness
Art
Outdoor Activities
Musical talents

Remember to be real. You don't want to try to be someone else and attract girls that you wouldn't be comfortable with. Have fun with it!

I know the rest of us at Elon are excited for you guys

The only real advice I have is get LOTS of sleep and rest your voice. The first round is going to be a learning experience for you guys, but after that first group, things will fall into place. It's the same for the rest of the chapters, too. You won't be nervous after that first group

Are you guys using one of the fraternity houses for recruitment or McKinnon?

We're using Kappa Sigma's house, which from my understanding is what you guys used last year. I didn't know that we could use McKinnon to be honest with you, but the Kappa Sigmas were nice enough to lend us their house.

They sure are nice guys They had a lot of fun watching us practice skits and stuff And their house is one of the nicer ones.

Elon is supposed to be building another Greek Court within 10 years. I doubt it will happen sooner than 5 years. They need to, though. We were lucky to get our house this year, and I know you guys want a house.

I know it first hand. My dad is a Kappa Sig .

We would love to have a house, but the sisterhood is a lot more important to us then any house in the world. But Elon does need to pick up the pace a bit. There are 21 GLOs and 13 houses, plus another fraternity on the way. With the new bussiness building and law school on the way, I'm sure expanding the Greek Courts is last on Elon's agenda.

And now back to your regularly scheduled program, already in progress.
