Florida State University
well, hopefully this thread doesn't get off topic to the point where it has to be closed like my "university of alabama" thread. i just want to say thanks to the people that supported me. also... i have decided to attend FSU (i got accepted last week, yayy).
i was wondering about some houses's reputations. for example: "the tri-delts are all blondes." now, i know 1. this isn't true b/c i made it up as an example and 2. even if it were true, not ALL tri-delts would be blondes b/c stereotypes are not always true.

No one will post the reputations of the chapters, so don't bother. You should really drop this, and try having an open mind.
I went to FSU, and the reputations are just stereotypes.

All the houses at FSU are outstanding and well respected. Keep an open mind, attend the maximum number of events possible during Recruitment and you will make up your own mind w/o outside influences.
Good luck!

laugh a lot
congratulations on your acceptance to fsu, and what they said. on the fsu website, you can go to current students, then greek life, then panhellenic, and view the sororities at fsu. most of them have working websites, and can give you an idea of the activities they participate in in a years time.
ps:there are old recruitment posts posted by pnms at fsu. if you do a search i think that you will be able to find them.

Make up your mind for yourself when you get to campus. What exactly is there to be gained by learning false stereotypes before you meet a single woman? Absolutely nothing besides giving yourself preconceived notions that are going to keep you from making rational, nonjudgmental decisions about what is best for you.
ETA: instead of wondering about stereotypes, the thing you should probably be concerned about right now, at least beginning to think about, is how you can get recs for all the sororities. I'm not going to outline the process here because it's been discussed a billion times in many other threads. But if you're truly concerned about rush, that is something productive that you can begin to get together earlier.

Hey again LAL -
I just wanted to reiterate what others have said. You really do need to keep an open mind and not base your decision on "reputations and stereotypes". For one thing everyone has a different view of each sorority - one person might think it's one of the best, another may have a different view. The things that make a sorority "good" for one person may not be the same things that would make it "good" for you.
Going into rush my daughter said she was keeping an open mind, but in her heart of hearts I know she had 3 sororities that she really wanted and that others had told her they could see her in. Its ironic that you used the "tri-delts are all blonde" example because she had heard something similar and had virtually ruled out Tri-Delt in her mind before rush had even started. Once she visited every house though, her perceptions changed completely. In fact, of her top 3 going in she cut 2 of them after the first and second round. When it came time to pick her top 3 for Pref night only one of them was one that she had initially wanted, and it was her second choice in the end. Luckily for her, she did keep an open mind and ended up right where she was meant to be...as a happy Tri-Delt...completely at home as a beautiful brunette in the sea of blondes.

These people are smart listen to them. Get a great GPA leaving HS, get your recs and don't do anything stupid. Learn how to present yourself for the first time, save your money and enjoy your last months with your HS friends.

My daughter went to FSU this Fall knowing she wanted to join a sorority but not knowing much about the sororities other than what she had read/seen on the FSU Greek Life site.
During recruitment, she told me that she felt that there was a sorority for anyone who truly wanted to be in one. Each day, as she got to see the young women interacting, her impressions of sororities changed until she knew her top three choices.
While Tri Delta was not one of the ones she felt was the best fit for her (although she is a blonde, attractive, and smart!), her impression of the sorority changed dramatically from day one when she felt she could never be tan enough, fit enough, or always looking good enough jumping out of bed in the a.m. to be a Tri Delta. She discovered there was a lot more to these young women than their appearance and kept them as one of her choices until she had to limit her choices to the final three.
She would probably tell you to go into recruitment with an open mind, not basing it on ANY stereotypes you have heard beforehand or that you form the first two days.
My impression of recruitment is that it can be a pretty stressful week. Don't make it more stressful forming opinions in advance.

You're getting lots of good advice. The sororities at FSU are exceptionally strong with an extremely wide range of offerings. It would be hard to go wrong here.

thank you so much i really appreciate all this wonderful advice! i am definately keeping my gpa up.. i got a 4.0 last tri and i have 4 teachers who were in a sorority preparying some recomendations as is my aunt who's a DZ alumni. i think i'll have my dad talk to people at his work and find out if anyone there was in a sorority or something.. but yeah i'm definately ready and i will remember to keep an open mind b/c what really matters is how i get along with these girls, not their reputation.
and thanks again for helping me realize that.
