Post To Be a Kid...?

I was reading another post and wanted to segue into this topic: What is it to being a kid? I mean, what is childhood about? When I think back to my childhood, I remember playing games. Having childhood crushes. Getting chased by boys (and chasing them back). Passing notes in class. Checking "yes" in the box. Sometimes checking "no". I just wonder what it was like for others and what they expected it to be like. Also, what do you expect it to be like for your kids or kids in the future?

I fondly remember playing with Barbie Dolls, riding my Big Wheel, playing Atari, selling iced-t and lemonade for a quarter and using that money to get a Rita's or Little Jimmy's Italian ice. Pretending I was a dj on my little portable record player that played 45's. I remember passing notes back in forth in class too and praying that the teacher didn't somehow find out, get it and read it out loud, which she did once and boy was I embarrassed-lol. My first little crush and my first little kiss. Life was carefree then (for me it seemed) and I enjoyed it! ......my teen years and highschool...that's another story-lol

In my opinion, I don't think kids today have the luxury of being a child. Some of them are just too grown for their age. It seems as if many have lost that childhood "innocence". I guess it is the sign of the times. I don't have any children but I would hope that I would be able to teach them to be aware of dangers, keep them safe, and for them to just be a kid....pressure free, so that they have fond memories of their childhood like I have of mine.
