Red face Girl, 10, Cuffed for Scissors in School

PHILADELPHIA - A 10-year-old girl was placed in handcuffs and taken to a police station because she took a pair of scissors to her elementary school.

School district officials said the fourth-grade student did not threaten anyone with the 8-inch shears, but violated a rule that considers scissors to be potential weapons.

Administrators said they were following state law when they called police Thursday, and police said they were following department rules when they handcuffed Porsche Brown and took her away in a patrol wagon.

The rest of this article is here: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...cissors_arrest

============================

This is nuts. The only crime, on the side of the girl, was that she was named after a car. The police undermined their ability to be effective with a community, by injuring their own credibility with this absurd act.

They've banned sissors from schools now? What do kids use to make collages? Is it plain "paste" now rather than "cut and paste"?

ARRRG, makes a lot of sense!

School Rules, call the Police!

Police Rules, hand cuff the Perp!

The Train in this country is about to derail.

But, maybe the 10 year old was a midget dressed like a 10 year old girl who run rampant through the school.

Didnt they take off points and go to rounded ends years ago?

Way over the top! Bet the COPS felt good when it came out in the media.

This is too ridiculous to even comment on. Thank heavens the police had the sense to see this for what it was - a huge misunderstanding!

Sense ? They still technically arrested or detained her. They took her away in cuffs in front of everyone . . . nice of them to find that there was no reason to charge her after all that wasn't it? False arrest?

Its your fault Honeychile, you are a social conservative in favor of extreme police powers

A few years ago a child was suspended for bringing nail clippers to school. They should have arrested that little nail clipping brat!
